Gave Up 2yrs of Free Cable TV...

No, Rick, I did NOT steal 2 years of cable. I called the company REPEATEDLY to
tell them they had stopped billing me for their basic service, but their reps
were so befuddled they repeatedly said, "We don't have you listed." Eventually
I stopped bothering and when I wanted to upgrade to Speedvision I called, told
them AGAIN that they were not billing me, and that I would like to upgrade to
their digital service. They sent out a cable repair guy, and I'm now back on
their rolls. I AM an ethical person, I do not deliberately pirate software or
cable service, but I only have so much time in my busy schedule (I'm a busy
physician who doesn't get to watch much television anyway) to correct the
actions of incompetents!

By the way, I was happy to pay full price for Dave Noonan's track convertor (and
found it a bargain, at that).

Of course, ranting for 9 months about Y2K and trying to scare people into
going out and spending thousands of dollars and shelters, etc that they do
not need (And never did need) is not morally wrong right?

Who cares about the people that work hard for their money and probably did
not have thousands of dollars that they could just throw away

Oh sure it was not legally wrong for you to do so, but as per your words
"Screw the legalities involved"

I'm almost curious to the point of asking you to recant your entire ***
life in minute increments. You know,  just to see why I should accept you as
my m***guide. Not that I don't trust you. I'm sure you make impeccable
decisions and have never fallen to any of the temptations that may plague
man. I just really can't make that kind of commitment without referencing
the background. You understand, I'm sure.

Your services will no longer be needed. Thank you.

Okay then.  I will retract my comments about your actions on this matter and
apologize for them under one condition:  You figure out how much unpaid
cable service you've consumed and send your provider a check for whatever it
amounts to.

The fact that they are billing you *now* is an indication that their
services were never intended to be free of charge.  Deal?

My crusade lasted nearly 2 years.  Get your facts straight.

That is a loaded question.  Are you still gay?  Just wondering.

........and      never      did      need   ......    ha ha ha ha ha   It's
cowardly to be a naysayer-come-lately AFTER the fact.  Hey what if I was
right?  What would you say?

"I bow to your highness, Y2KRick"

Face it.  No one knew the outcome -- including yourself.

Yet, if my prognostications proved correct, would it have been money well
spent to protect  loved ones?  Given that NO person knew what was going to
happen, that lent credence to prudent preparation.  Only a fool would not
have prepared for such potential disaster.  However, it is equally foolish
to not be prepared to be wrong.  I didn't spend all of my money on
preparation, and I never suggested anyone else should.

Huh?

Oh, LOL.  As if!
Personally, I'd attach about as much value to an apology from this character
as I would give a half-head of cabbage.

Well put!

As for me, I'm glad for the "almost" you inserted there.  I don't think I
could stomach that little stroll down Rick's Memory Lane (take a hard right
on Chicken Little Ln. to see the abandoned Y2K bunker); and anyway, I don't
know if the fellow can distinguish fact from fantasy (anymore? ever?).

Whew, thank god I only had to catch the last part of it then

Gay? Me? Yep. My wife and I have a male sock puppet that we like to fool
around with.  We named it Rick.

Yes, that's why I'm always driving my car with a helmet, ice hockey
pads,
at least 3 *** transfusion bags, an emergency doctor, 50 liters of
water,
4 spare tires, food supply for a week and my trusty shotgun.

That's just for driving to work, you should see the list for my
vacation drive... ;^)

Wait - didn't he TELL them he was getting it free - and they STILL didn't bill

their billing procedure wasn't working - multiple times.  Should he have just
CANCELLED?  I don't think so.

Yet you advocate launching a first strike on Russia.  Mass *** = okay,
watching cable TV without paying for it even though you repeatedly told them
you were still receiving it = bad.  Interesting m***code you have there,
Rick.

I missed the whole y2k thing with this Rick person - was this
happening in RAS or in another newsgroup?
Shame I missed it, this Rick sounds like a fun person :)

He tried it in this group but someone complained to his ISP and he was
forced to stop. He proclaimed most of his ***first in the TEN NROS
newsgroup and then on the N3 group at Jacob Butner's private news server.

Oh, and he also had a pseudonym of "Omegaman" which he used to post in
comp.software.year-2000. For some strange reason though, in that group he
called himself a "reformed doomsayer" and tried to pick arguments with
those who had exactly the same viewpoints that he inflicted on sim racers.
Make of that what you will.....

Whilst it is slightly amusing to watch someone so publicly make such an ass
of themselves, I personally wouldn't use the term "fun".

Cheers,
Richard

Maybe not, but the term "train spotting" took on a whole new meaning
with those tanks patrolling the streets of every major city in the UK,
and those "bank runs"...:-)

Beers and cheers
