GeForce drivers.

Guys,

I've ordered my new GF4 card, to replace my GF2.

Can I put the latest drivers on now, while I'm waiting for it to arrive, and
expect to simply swap the cards over?
Or do I need to remove all the drivers, swap the card, boot with VGA, then
reinstall the latest drivers?

Is there any particular version of driver that works best with GF4 Ti4200
Turbo and W98, or should I just use the latest?

Thanks.

R.

Don't know about the which driver to use question, but as far as
installing the drivers, definitely option #2 there, DO NOT do option #1!

You need to wait.  You will have to reinstall them anyway.

The proper way to do this is:

1.  Uninstall the current drivers.
2.  Shut the system down and replace the card.
3.  Power up and when it detects the card, install the new drivers.

Really?  I have swapped a GF4 Ti4200 for a geforce 2 MX (yes i know - very
strange!) recently and there was no probs, just needed to set my res again
when i got in.

I'm about to install my GF FX (where my Ti4200 is now).  I'll let you know
how I get on.

All the best,
Ash

I have a Ti4400, and recently went from the 30.82 driver the latest 44.03
driver, and it was fine apart from anti-aliasing didn't work in GPL for some
reason. Other applications were fine, at least N2003 was, but not GPL,
however much I tinkered. I went back to the 30.82 driver, and all was well
again.

Anyone else experienced this?

Andrew.

It's all system dependent, I guess. The 30.82 drivers were not a big success
with my 4400. I finally installed the drivers that came with the card (41.07
I believe) and all was fine. FWIW I upgraded from GF3 and 21.81, and didn't
take all the advised precautions. Just installed them over the old drivers,
and didn't see a problem in any sim. So no need to panic when swapping GF
drivers for new GF drivers.

Bye,
Leo

You can get away with this (just installing new drivers over old ones)
sometimes, particularly with nVidia cards, which seem preternaturally
compatible backwards and forwards with both h/w and s/w, but the way Larry
described is the right way.
