Wayne,

That is something I already read somewhere but I dont get. If you can
receive with 56k bps there must be a way for someone to send with 56k bps.
Now why should only the ISP be able to send with this speed (that is what
I have read). Why shoudnt the user be able to send with 56k bps ?

The X2 from USR is not like your old modem, where each side agreed to
send at the same speed.  X2 is mainly a benefit for Web surfers.  You will
be able to recieve at 57kbs ONLY if the ISP has a Digital connection and a
few other odds and ends,  Then your modem will send upstream at the old
28.8/33.3kbs rate.  The Rockwell 57k modem works basically the same way.
For gamers, the X2 does not seem to be of any benefit.

Maybe not for a one on one game, but as soon as you are playing against
more than one other person, you are downloading all of the info about
their actions and still only uploading your own.

In a 16 player Quake game, you are downloading 15 times more data than
you are uploading!

Cheers,
Richard

I would agree that in a two player game, where one buddy calls up another
to race, X2 would have no benefit over a 28.8 modem. But consider this
scenario: You want to play an online game like N2 or Quake. Your computer
sends and recieves player information to/from the host. In an 8 player
game, you only have to send data about yourself, i.e. speed, position, and
direction, but you have to recieve that same kind of data about ALL players
in the game. In this case, only the host needs fast send and recieve
capabitities. The X2 modem would provide a real speedup to the 'Dialers.'
