Midtown Madness; I give up!

Ok, here's the deal.  Celeron300A pushed to 450, 128 MB pc100 memory, Voodoo
2 12MB, UDMA2 WD hard drive, virtual memory set at 192.

Even so, every time I start a new track or change a car, it will stop for up
to eight seconds to draw a new screen.  After you flog through the track a
couple of times, everything is as smooth as it can be.  Then we have to go
throught the same thing if anything changes.

What am I missing?  This is driving me nuts!  Help!!

Thanks,
cp2

Don't use speed loading and set the Teture Quality to medium, I guess. That
should work. The Voodoo2 doesn't have a lot of texture memory to spare as
far as this game goes.

After fiddling around, I finally found an answer in a freeware program
called Cacheman 3.6.  Evidently my cache size wasn't at it's best setting.

I'm running everything on high, and it seems to be working out, even tried
maxed out (without agp) and only get a few hiccups.

This things a lot of fun when it's running!
