N2K2 Lockups, Help needed

by Dean Mol » Mon, 14 Oct 2002 08:41:17

I just built a new system today, however N2K2 randomly locks up.  I have
even turned down all of the settings to low, which didn't resolve the issue.

Here is what occurs:

Screen locks up completely, except the game still runs in the background.  I
can control the car, and usually hear the accident.

If I switch off and on the monitor, it loads the same froze screen.  Also I
cannot reset or turn off the computer.

Here is my system:

P4 2.53 (37 oC)
Albatron 845PE MB (40 oC)
ATI Radeon 9700 PRO, catalyst drivers on website today
Turtle Beach Santa Cruze, drivers from website today
Western Digital 120SE
Windows XP (SP1), no other programs installed.
TSW, USB adapter

Any help is much appreciated.  I would like to take this system to the
LikeReal tournament Tuesday.

Thanks in advance,
Dean Moll

I had this and so did DGF with different video cards than you have.  The
big thing is to make sure you PROPERLY removed all vestiges of your last
video drivers...the ATI has a very specific method for this.
2ndly...try both 3d rasterizers and see if it locks up more in d3d or
opengl.
Search with Google-groups for DGF's lockup problems.  I don't think he has
totally eliminated them yet.

Overclocking your video card by any chance?  Also, if I run the game in a
higher resolution than my desktop i will have similar problems.  For me it
usually means crank down my Vid card memory a bit.
