I am having a " problem " with NFSPU that I hope someone can give me a
simple solution to.

I have progressed to a point in Factory Driver mode where I just can't go
any further.

I am racing through Monaco against " what's her name " and I just can't seem
to get my brakes to work up to the level of hers.  We are heading down the
long straightaway and if I leave my breaking up to when she brakes I crash
into the wall.  If I brake early enough to actually make the turn she leaves
me.

I have tried an experiment where I get up to speed on the straight and then
press the brake to the floor.  No skidding ( straight line ) at all.  The
car just downshifts ( auto *** ) and comes to a stop.  In manual
transmission mode it does the same, minus the downshiftng.

I have tried this on a
PIII 500 w/128
Erazor X2
Thrustmaster  Force FT

and with a
PII 450 w/128
V5500
Act Labs Force with shifter.

Same results.  Any way to adjust the brakes sensitivity?  Have played with
the deadzone settings but that didn't help.

Thanks,

John Pavlice

Run her into walls, etc.  That's what I did, and I eventually kicked her
ass.

That's how I got this far! :-)

Didn't think I would ever get past those other GT1 cars.  I eventually
managed to slam one in the wall right at the end of the straight and go by
to take the win.  Took about 50 tries though.

So, no help for the breaks?  Just try to crash her out?  Seems kind of
mean.....  Too bad!

Thanks ,

Robert

Oh ye of little imagination <g>... give her a little tap when you enter
*** Square, just enough to make her clip the fence... with any luck
she'll flip and you cruise to victory.

About the braking problem... don't follow what's her name but take the
correct racing line i.e. hug the inside out of the tunnel and straighline
the braking area. Car is settled and will stop in a predictable fashion.

You're right, it's tempting to just have a race with the AI, as they're
pretty good, but then you realise hooligan tactics are more effective. ;-)

Hi,

I don't want to sound big headed or anything,

But I recently did the whole of factory driver again in about 4 hours...

Racing Stephanie was pretty easy I thought, it was the porsche TV advert
and
trying to get the GT1 to 360 was the hard bits...

To race her, rev to about 4000rpm at start (if ur using auto its easier)
and this
should give you a good start, then just block her if she comes close, I
didnt think
this was necessary, but if ya need to - block the ***!! send her
crashing!! hehe

Anyway, goodluck with the rest of the game...

Here's a simple solution, although it will take some time:

Buy and install GPL. Drive it for about a year offline. Then race in a
league online for about another year. After that, nothing in PU is
challenging enough to resort to guerilla tactics. Just go out and win.

Just like that.

Hehehe... you're right.

Nothing quite as satisfying as "making sure" though. ;-))

I found the GT1s really easy - they don't corner anything like as
quickly as is possible, so although they're quite quick on straights
and corner exit (rather suspiciously quick IMO...!) you can ***
them mid corner and under braking.

I just went deep on the brakes and banged my outside into their inside
to help my braking, worked well :-)

Cheers!

I see you got quite a few "Schumacher" type responses on how to, ahem,
"deal with her", so I'll offer another. Simply pull a Schumacher start
on her, pulling right across in front of her and squeezing her toward
the wall. She'll back off, and from then on it's plain sailing, I
found the race really easy.

Maybe she gets demoralised easily!

Cheers!

Move the brakes further to the front and increase downforce?  It might
help - though I haven't actually played factory driver much so I don't know.

Well, that is simple.   And it really explains the lack of  breaks in NFS:PU
.

I have GPL.  But I don't have the time nor the desire to learn how to drive
a car that uses ice for tires and  races on a surface paved with wet ice.
Or at least that is the way it seems to me.

I can appreciate your love of GPL.  The few times I was actually able to
complete a lap without spinning or crashing were quite enjoyable.  However,
no matter what else people say about GPL, the breaks do work.  With the
break aid turned off the tires do actually lock up under heavy breaking.

The same cannot be said for NFS:PU.  That was the reason for the question.
As in " They work fine for me ".  Which would tell me that I have set
something up wrong and hopefully give me some clue as to how to fix it.

I have since managed to beat " Steph ", so I guess the question doesn't
matter all that much anymore.  Thanks VERY much for your most helpful reply.

The problem was not getting in front of her, but staying there.  The AI does
not attack the corners the way I do, and in the city I can catch and pass
them easily.  But once I am out front the suckers pass me back under
breaking.

So, I guess the question I should have asked is:

" Is there any way to make the player's car slow down as quickly as the AI
cars do? "

                                       ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

This addresses my question.  When I am braking, they are ***ing me.  Is
there some option I have toggled by mistake?
