NR2003 League Set-up Question

by TlgtrPr » Sun, 23 Nov 2003 00:23:58

A group of us are trying to set up a small offline league for nr03.  We have it
pretty well figured out, except how to even out the skill levels.

Setup is:  run in arcade, everybody's car is in everybody's race (either human
or ai) and we average points from all races, all 'seasons' set with same
parameters.  (All of this works as we had a nr02 league last year.)

The problem we have is 2 of our players are WAY better than most of the rest of
us.  If any on has any suggestions on how (other than different difficulaty per
centages) to level the compitition?  We have looked at the adaptive AI and
adaptive speed control(?) but aren't sure how they work and would affect the
racing?

ANY HELP VERY MUCH APPRECIATED...    (If you need other info just ask.)

Kevin,

Two things come to mind.
The first race of the season everyone starts with the same AI strength
setting.  After the first race, the top three in the overall standings must
set their AI strength 1% higher.  You keep doing this for the whole season.
Some drivers will move into and out of the top three and their AI %'s will
be adjusted accordingly for each race.

The other thing to try is leave the AI settings the same for everyone, but
have the race winner always take a provisional and start in last place for
the next race.

HTH,

Actually the way we do it is the human always starts 24th (we only race 10% and
a 24 car field).  Maybe it would work to let the bottom half of the league
qualify?  All of the 'member cars' are set at the same AI percentages (65 and
85) we could adjust there also.

Thanks a lot you have given me some good stuff to think about.  We don't want
to penalize the better drivers-we just dont want to lose the lower drivers
interest by race 10 by which time the best shot they have is 3rd or 4th...
