Hey Folks,
I emailed Torus for some info on their upcoming*** Johnson
V8 Challenge that should be coming out soon. I received a very prompt
response which was nice. Have a read

Wolf,

More details on the DJ V8 Challenge will be posted n the site towards the
end of this month.

The game will have the new AU and VT model Falcon's and Commodores.

But why would you want to drive those things. Remember when they changed the
class some years ago to allow european entries and the Ford Sierra etc ran
rings round the V8s. They quickly changed it back to exclude them. They are
American wallowing muscle.

I love Aussie V8's, I love any form of touring cars, but Aussie V8's are

grip, fun .-)

Ahhhh......I do believe the Class A specs you are talking about are a little bit
different. Like 350HP compared to the current 600+ and very restricted
Aerodynamics in Class A..And didn't Brocky beat them at Bathirst and at Spa in
one of these "wallowing" V8s.

They are some of the most exciting cars to watch in the world and probably one
of the hardest to race.

No, he didn't beat them at all. The Sierras were excluded from
Bathurst, but they absolutely trounced every other car on the circuit.
As for Spa, the only thing I can think of is the 24Hr ***, which
saw them win the Kings Cup for Teams, but the highest placed Commodore
was 22nd.

Group A Commodores had much more than 350hp, they were more around
400-450 in the initial stages, heading up to 550 by the time Group A
ended. The cars now have up to around 620hp, but are much more smooth
and drivable thanks to the Fuel Injection systems they run.

You omitted the reason they were excluded, it was for cheating.
It's pretty easy to beat other cars (including all the other Sierras in the
race) when you cheat :-)

And you omitted the fact that the only illegality was the wheelarches.
They were trimmed more than they should have. The advantage was there,
but it was not used, they COULD have used wider tyres and gained even
more speed. They didn't. I'm not defending their actions, in fact it
was ***y stupid of whoever did the mod not to have checked. But the
fact remains, with or without the "cheat", they were far and away the
faster car. They were turning 2:21s in the rain while Brock slithered
about in 2:25

Thanks for the history lesson. I now they were doing well at SPA before something
broke!. As for the Sierras trouncing everyone....bending the rules is usually done to
make you faster than the opposition! First past the line means nothing if you have
bent the rules. Brocky won because his was the first car meeting the Group A regs at
the end of the race.

I would love to see Group C type regs back in Australia. I loved the Camaro's, BMW's
and other ***s they use to race back in the good old days

Should be interesting to see how they have modelled Sandown in the game. The first
corner has always been a favorite viewing location over the years.

Wasn't Brockies effort in the rain one of the most brilliant pieces of driving
you have ever seen! Perhaps he would of done 2:21's if he fitted his polarizer!

I seem to remember that  they claimed it gave them no advantage, but others
claimed that it did give them an advantage. Obviously the powers that be
deemed it was serious enough to exclude them. The only fact I'll stand by is
that they were excluded for cheating regardless of if there was any
advantage or not.

My memories of the race are how *** the Texaco Sierras were compared to
the other teams running Sierras and how well the Aust teams did against the
rest of the world. The worst memory of that race is getting soaked to the
bone and having to spend four hours soaking wet in a car on the way home.

I have no argument with the fact that the Sierras were the *** car of
that period (untill Godzilla came along) after all even Brocky drove one.

The facts were... Some Sierra's were nearly two laps in front of the rest
of the field, except for the Texaco Sierra's that were four laps ahead... at
half distance. The 'powers that be' tried to exclude them for fuel
irregularities, but couldn't so changed tack to draw attention to the wider
wheel arches the Sierra's had been running since the 3rd meeting (Bathurst
was the tenth meeting on the championship).
C'mon admit it; the 'real' problem was that Brocky was not driving the
quickest car (Sierra), and what made it worse was it was a FORD that was too
quick for the rest! :))
