You guys need a RAS F1 driver to come over and drive your car for a
race?  It's realistic, right... =)

I can do consistent mid 1:16s and just ran a pickup race online and
qualified at a mid 1:15. I think that will probably be middle of the pack on
Saturday.

I pity you guys.  I think this is going to be a real tough race.  How
many laps you doing?  It may actually be worthwile pressing f5 during
the race and keeping an eye on those tyres.  See any smoke from a lockup
and you're guaranteed to be heading in for new boots within a couple of
laps, and that's pretty easy to do here, though I think engine braking
is the key.  Even without lockups and my front right is in the yellow
within 6 to 7 laps.  Add to that the tendency for the car to want to
oversteer out of the slower corners at each end of the s/f straight (and
pretty much everywhere else really :) and this looks like it could get
messy.

Good luck.  :)

"You can run 1:19's with the FAST setup using the keyboard and driving
aids :-)"

Well, Damn, my keyboard looks a whole hell of a lot like a wheel, and
I've been in the sand enough to know that the driving aids are not
turned on. I can manage 1:19, and I even put it in the grass at turn
1. Maybe if I keep it on the track, I'm a 1:18? I am embarrassed to
drive this track so shitty, having grown up in the area. I used to
watch Andretti, Lauda, and the boys mix it up when I was a kid. Loved
the 6 wheel Elf car. Used to camp right where the cars would come up
hill from the boot. Saw Jacques Villenueve (sr.) spin out, and then
just jump on it to turn himself around again. Those were the days! I
have all of the graphics turned on, but I still haven't seen the
crazies burning cars in "The Bog".

Back to reality.

I have a lot of work to do. Some papy online races proves the point
that if you can stay out of trouble, you can have a good finish by
default. Most everyone will end up in the grass at some point, and you
can cruise on by. My goals for this weekend are: 1. finish; 2. keep it
off the grass; 3. keep it off the roof. 4. try not to get consecutive
BF's for speeding in the pits - 35 is awfully slow and going downhill
is a ***.

Well I just spent some time with the fast setup and just about deleted the
game in frustration.  After two weeks of playing nothing but F1C trying to
wrestle a cup car around a road course just feels horrible.  In half an hour
I managed a very sloppy 1:16.6 with the fast setup before I gave up.  Half
an hour was all I could stand.  I have definitely done better with my own
setups.  The fast setup has the brake bias way too far forward, which means
you are always cooking the front tires on every corner entry.  Plus like
many cup car setups they use track bar rather than rear ARB to balance the
rear, which leaves it with no bite in the rear tires and a *** tendency
for the rear to whip around without any way to save it.  Drop the track bar
and balance the rear with the ARB instead and it will stop fishtailing out
of every corner.  If you set these things up like a road car instead of a
dragster they are faster and more stable.  I was really thinking I might
join you guys for this one race, but after that experience, no thanks.  I'm
off to Hungary for a little F1 practice.

I'm running in the 15's and 16's, but for the race will probably drop the
pace a bit to conserve the tyres and try to avoid front lockups.  Guess I'll
be down the back keeping Eldred company, thats if I get on the invite list
(hint...hint  Eldred:o) )
