I must really suck

I've been playing Nascar 2002 for a couple of days now. Just bought it
and a wheel/pedels on a whim. Ive been having a lot of fun... until I
found out I was using all of the drivers aids. Ok so I turned them all
off. WTF??? its completely impossible to drive now. Tell me
truthfully... how many of you can drive without traction control and
steering assistance? It is soo hard, I can barley make it into 4th on
daytona befor spinning wildly out of control on the straights even. Do
I just suck or is it possible? I am using a thrustmaster pro digital 2
wheel and pedal combo... is this whats up? Please help, I was having
so much fun.. I even won a race online, but now I feel like I cheated.

Just be patient and practice.  A lot of the guys racing in NR2002 got their
start with this physics engine back with GPL.  It it not easy but can be
mastered.  Practice, practice, practice...

Maybe you should try recalibrating. On Daytona, the only time I spin off
is when it's assisted by either the AI or an online competitor. For me
to spin while I'm alone would require me to really yank the wheel
around like crazy.

Cheers,
Rod.

I have almost no NASCAR sim experience, but even for me Daytona is a breeze
with no aids (100% linear wheel setting). Something HAS to be off with your
controller setup.

recalibrate, make sure its smooth...

drive the car like you would any real car....smooth motions, no jerking the
wheel....just drive smooth. its really quite easy.

do you have your controller in N2002 setup for a joystick or a wheel?  and
is the linerity slider set more to the left or right?  There is always a
breaking in period when longtime joystick or keyboard users take up a wheel,
but use paitience and a light touch on your wheel and you'll get the hang of
it.

So, speaking of NR2002, you like it David?

One thing to also keep in mind; other than calibrating your wheel, is that
it may be an operator problem. I say this not as an insult but let me
explain. When in the turns at Daytona you do not have to keep turning the
wheel. You should be able to have the wheel at mostly at the neutral
(centered) position once you are "in" the turn, with the proper setup. You
can get a good feel for this even with the in-game "Fast" setup as it has a
fairly decent Camber setting. In my experience from the past with N4 and
NR2K2 is that with proper setups if you turn the wheel too much in the turns
it is possible to loop the car and back it into the wall as a result. But as
others have already stated make sure that your wheel is properly calibrated
first.

No... it is not force feedback. Its just a 60 dollor wheel, but from what
I've been reading alot of people seem to like it.

Hmmm... not sure what the controller is set as(joystick or wheel), just
whatever it came up as. I went through the calibration setup in game, with
no problems. Since writing the original post I can now run pretty good laps
at daytona and talladega. Coca Cola is still pretty hard though, but you
guys where right.. just takes practice. One more question though. I have my
linerity set to 85%... .should it be lower or higher. And I noticed that my
wheel is taking axis 0 in the calibration screen, and my throttle brake
pedals are sharing axis 2... is this normal? Thanks for you help!

Other than the clutch (because I don't have one), I haven't used any of the
assists ever in Nascar Racing XXX.

I do in GPL from time to time when I'm first starting out on a new track.

Yes, and the Wheel Lock is set to sensitive by default on the provided
setups.  Start with it at 32, and then make it more sensitive from there as
you feel is needed.

Keep the RR Spring soft, the spoiler at 70 and the front-end pushy until you
get a better handle on the car.

I must really suck

What probably happened there is that you got into some bad habits using the
aids (too rough on the controls basically), so leave the game aside for a
day or so and then "feel" your way back into it.

Remember you must "burp" the throttle (let up momentarily when shifting up)
when running without aids to prevent overrevving the engine and snap
oversteer. Also, AFAIK your wheel doesn't have an analog clutch pedal, so
you should leave auto clutch on. Otherwise you will stall the engine
frequently. As pointed out by other poster wheel users should use the linear
steering setting.

Jan.
