Is the only difference between F1RS and GP2 better graphics ??

Well, actually quite often. But it is difficult; if you are not VERY careful
with the pedals, you'll get the 180 degree spin. But certainly there are no
rails! And you loose lots of speed when you correct the spin, so normally
you should avoid it.

      <Discussion that concludes F1RS models>
      <a larger slip angle than GP2 snipped.>

   Ok, here is my tirade.

The point of my posts to the "How Good is F1RS" and "F1RS Sucks"
threads are that, to me, F1RS feels more familiar.  Which you
describe as "user friendly."  I don't have an opinion of which
is a more accurate simulation of a Formula One race car.

I do read your posts, and I consider you a valuable resource.
You have stated that you have competed on most of the tracks we
have in the Formula One sims.  What were you driving?  How many
seasons have you participated in?

I know you find several of the F1RS tracks inaccurate.  Are there
any that you like?

Are the race cars you have driven as difficult, slide recovery
wise, as GP2?  Will next year's grooved tires increase the slip
angle, and make them more like F1RS?

I don't consider F1RS to be perfect.  And I am unhappy that, as
reported in this newsgroup, Ubi has no intention of fixing the
tracks.  I still like the way F1RS feels.

I'll be gone for two or three weeks and won't have access to
this group.  If you respond to this, please include E-mail to me.
I'm counting on all you F1RS fans to keep John Wallace under
control.  : )

Open your cars folder and delete the lists you don't want.  They have the
extension - .lst

Same here, using my favored setup while late-braking into fast corners
the tail will often come out several degrees. It's fairly easy to
balance with opposite lock and delicate throttle input. Great fun too.
And who hasn't understeered their way off the track in GP2? Methinks
THAT has something to do with slip angles.

Nor do I. Beyond the fact that both respond in a manner which appears
realistic, the only conclusion I can draw is that GP2 is easy to drive
at lower speeds but harder to drive on the limit. F1RS seems more
nervous, but as to which is more "realistic", of course I have no
opinion, nor empirical evidence either way.

Er, I mentioned only having DRIVEN on ONE course that Formula One runs
on, far from competing on all the courses! :-)  That course was
Suzuka, which I drove once in a Skyline GT-R. I have also driven Spa
on their open weekend, and Hockenheim. That's it for F1 tracks,
although I've competed and raced on quite a number of tracks and ovals
around the UK.

All of them except Suzuka.

Some of them are, although I have never experienced the sort of grip
loss I would expect from getting an F1 car out of shape, with
mechanical AND aerodynamic grip falling off extremely quickly.

Likewise. I've heard rumour of a follow-up though, so perhaps in that
they can address the known shortcomings (as I hope Geoff will do with
GP3). Some more stable and user-friendly internet play would be nice,
although considering that internet play was not supposed to be
possible with the current version (according to the FIA license) maybe
we've got it better than we could have expected.

Heh - come on down :-)

Cheers!
John
