GPL - download speed question

I'm 76% through the download after 50 minutes from The Apex
http://www.racesimcentral.net/; That's at a steady idicated
3.1k/sec in netscape on my old 1995 vintage USR sportster
33.6 internal, which is actually connected at 28.8 right
now. I'm just curious if those of you with 56k modems
actually get significant download speed increases over the
speeds I'm seeing.

BTW, one friday afternoon at work a few weeks ago, I
downloaded a 20mb avi in less than 2 minutes over the LAN.
The highest indicated speed by netscape was over 110k/sec.
This was from an internet site, I swear, not a private
intranet. Man that was unreal. Two bad I haven't got a zip
drive in at work yet.

Connected at  46,600 with a USR 56.6, the download took approx 1hr 15
min from http://gpl.gamestats.com/.
Of course time of day has much to do with download times. My download
started at 11:45 PM  PST
