Playstation Emulator - it works

by Steve Ferguso » Sat, 27 Mar 1999 04:00:00

I have just been playing around with the latest version of the Bleem
Playstation emulator.  There is a demo available at www.bleem.com.  In the
demo, 3D hardware support and sound are disabled, but it still gives you a
good idea of how it will work.  And it works surprisingly well.  I was
just playing around with the European (PAL) versions of V-Rally, Gran
Turismo, Need for Speed III and Porsche Challenge, and they all work
without a hitch.  It's kind of cool to play them in a little window on
your desktop at work   :)

You do need some pretty serious computer muscle for it to run smoothly,
but most of the people in this group are well up the technology curve.  I
recommend trying it out for some fun.

Go here for PSEmu...

It is a playstation emulator made by a bunch of enthusiasts..    it has FULL
sound suppport, FULL 3D support, but I'm not sure about the Joystick Win '98
controller support..   go to:

www.psemu.com

You will need to download the extra drivers..  but just get them ALL..  and
install them  (cpoy into direcotry), and then you select the drivers you
want...

I haven't tried a wheel with GT tho..  THAT WOULD BE AWESOME!!!!

Can someone tell me if they have and HOW??

Thanx..

James

It talks about putting some emulator stuff in the BIOS directory. Where is my
bios directory likely to be. What is this emulator stuff and is it safe or is it
going to flash my BIOS which I'm not to keen on.
Cheers,
Paul

The emulator needs the PSX bios (obviously not legal to have), but if
you hunt around it will probably be readily available in some of the
darker corners of the 'net

Cheers!

You need to download a BIOS image file from the same site (or some other emu
site) which is only legal if you own a playstation.  The BIOS directory is a
subdirectory where the EMulator is installed.  It has nothing whatsoever to do
with your computer's BIOS and is only used to start the emulator's 'virtual
machine'.

The emulator is just a sort of translator that takes the data from a PLaystation
CD and translates it to work on your PC.  They tend to be pretty buggy but often
playable enough to enjoy.  IF you own a playstation, the games are better and
more fun on the playstation, tho.

John, I think I've got something that's legal for me to use because I own a
Playstation. But I don't know where to put it and I'm worry it will flash my BIOS -
does it?
Cheers,
Paul

The BIOS they refer to is the PLaystation BIOS, not the computers
BIOS. You download a ZIP file, and UNzip it into the BIOS Directory in
the PSEMU directory (or whatever the dir is called where the emulator
is installed). It wont do anything to your computers BIOS at all
