GP3 first screen shots...........

Picked up this weeks PcGamer, and in their advert for next month they
are promising screen shots of the long awaited
GP3, which according to Microprose "still and never will be released".
Maybe when they release it they can put a non disclosure
agreement with it :)

Anyhow After the last fiasco of Gp2, steps need to be taken so we the
general public don't get ripped off by microprose again.

Don't buy GP3 until all the following are met.

1) The release MUST be a full release not a beta where promised features
where disabled.

2) The release must NETWORK. And for once in a racing game be able to
race full seasons over a network.

3) Full support for 3d Cards

i can probably think of more stuff but the top 3 are at the top of my
list.

Btw if you don't believe me about the beta bit them check your gp2.exe.
Load it into an editor and search for "wet"

Aw crap, not this again. Go to Dejanews and read the millions of
responses already made to the above.

Alternatively, cast your mind back to F1GP and try and remember how
many races, practice sessions, hotlaps, seasons etc you did. Now try
and remember how many of those were done in the wet. Divide figure "B"
by figure "A", and I think you'll be surprised at how far below 1% it
actually is.

Driving in the wet is really not fun, and I used to hate it when F1GP
threw me a wet race spit-ball in the middle of a season. It's really
not such a big loss from GP2. Now if it were done to perfection in GP3
it might be nice, but I doubt it was missed all that much in GP2
(except in this group of course, where everything is "ROCKZ!!!!" or
"SUCKS!!!!!" - there is no inbetween.

Cheers!

Nope, as soon as GP3 hits the streets, I will be busting to get in the
store to buy it!  GP2 had no wet wx. no 3DFX, no decent multiplay, no
backup from Micropose, it needed a monster spec PC to run it (when
first released).  All that apart it,  is still the best damb F1 (or any)
sim available to date.  Lets face it, nothing else comes close!  Geoff
Crammond is God, we should be grateful if GP3 is offered to us mere
mortals.....  Ok, so am getting a bit carried away!  I will climb off my
soap box......

You've just subscribed to that about which you complain, John.
Driving in the wet "SUCKS", huh?  No "in-between"?

Eh Bruce...I've to agree with John here, the wet weather in F1RS is
not fun. I'm still puzzling what that WOOOOSH sound is, when turning
in. The graphics are OK, but after 15 minutes, you don't notice that
anymore, and you're anoyed with the lack of physics and AI. (The AI
drives as fast through Eau Rouge at Spa, as if it is dry!)

Nah. I can dislike something without deeming it "suckworthy", but I'm
sure everyone else's interpretation will be different. I just dislike
the tendency toward all or nothing, good or bad, suckz or roolz. Of
course some things do suck and some do rule (in a manner of speaking),
but I don't think everything can.

Anyway, F1RS' weather wasn't bad at all, certainly by far the best
we've seen. It's just that I don't think the lack of weather in GP2
really detracted from it that much. If racing in the rain is so many
times harder than normal, I think we have a ways to go before we're
ready for a truly accurate simulation of it. Maybe get a big model of
the back of a McLaren and see how quickly we can take evasive action.
That then leads into the "pits fisticuffs" sim... :-)

Cheers!

John said this:-
"Driving in the wet is really not fun, and I used to hate it when F1GP
threw me a wet race spit-ball in the middle of a season. It's really

which I interpret as him saying that driving in the wet "sucks"!

I didn't say that I *disagree*!!!

There is lots of text (and code presumably) that isn't used
in the game. Other example: load the soundfile into CoolEdit
and listen. You'll hear radio messages and other stuff.
The game was rushed to the stores in (andvanced) beta-status
in my opinion. MP didn't want to wait any longer after building
so much pre-release interest. And they were strapped for cash
at that time (if I remember well).
It's still the best _simulator_ IMHO, but the graphics and sounds
are a bit outdated now. I can only hope that GP3 builds on the
physics model employed in GP2, but adds spectacular graphics,
crashes and changing weather. (Can you imagine: hot air rising
from the tarmac as you see the slightly deformed cars rushing
towards you? Or re-enacting the Schumacher-Coulthard crash?)

Cheers,
Erik.

Whatever eventually appears in any PC magazine, it can all be taken
with a pinch of salt. I remember when some PC magazine previewed GP2,
stating that you had to see the fuid framerate to believe it. They
also crapped on about how GP2 was currently running under the GLINT 3d
chipset as an option. In fact the article turned out to be so far from
reality, I doubt they even saw the product or spoke to anyone about
it. It probably helped sell that particular issue though (I bought it
after all). Luckily, I've realised these mags are full of it. They
quite often state how great a game looks in xy resolution without that
resolution actually being available in the game!!

Bring back the days of ZZap64. Entertaining, accurate and no pandering
to big bucks advertising.
