Burnout and MPlayer

Hey, what's up guys?
I just got my SHRA update with Tim's idea of racing on Kali
and had a couple of ***es about it (not that Tim has any control of this).
I downloaded the Kali shareware a while back and tried it
out and was very dissatisfied with it, so I dumped it in favor of MPlayer.
This was when Quake was still fairly new.  My lag times were horrible!!!  I
then tried MPlayer and was able to actually do something in the game.  My
experience with Kali wasn't a good one compared to the rest of the online
alternatives out there.  Now I still have an MPlayer membership, though I
rarely play on MPlayer, and Gamespy 3D.  Gamespy is the program Kali wants
to be.  Also, I play MTM on MS Zone and it is pretty cool and works most of
the time (something I can't say about Kali).  So based on principle I won't
spend $20 to play Burnout through Kali when I have other online
alternatives.  And until MPlayer gets their act together with Burnout
support, I simply will not use the service.  The only other games I play
online are Quake and Q2, and I can do that through Gamespy.  This brings me
to my second rant of the evening.
Burnout was announced a LOOOONNGGG time ago( I think I saw
the first ad for it in like November or something) and MPlayer has yet to
get it working on their network.  Kinda makes me wonder what was going on
over there.  Plenty other games have been able to get MPlayer support
between Nov. and now, so why the hell not Burnout?  Did MPlayer think it was
gonna blow and waited to see if it was worth doing?  If so and there are any
contractual obligations to Bethsoft, who gets the blame for it?  I know one
thing for sure and that is if I worked with a company and paid them
advertising royalties and liscensing fees to get there support for my
product and was still waiting, I'd be one pissed puppy.  MPlayer support was
one of the reasons for my personal purchase of the product.  Imagine my
surprise when I reinstalled their software to not find any reference to the
game.
Now if the fault lies on Bethsoft's end, maybe they shouldn't have claimed
MPlayer support for the game before it was done and let us know through
Usenet and the other usual sources.  Whatever the problem was, someone
screwed up and the only benefactor is Kali, which for all practical
purposes, will probably be dead in 2 years anyway since most big publishers
are setting up their own *** networks.  Maybe just maybe Bethsoft will
dump MPlayer and do this!!!!  (I know I am dreaming, but it could happen!)

I know at some point there will be resolve to all of this mess, and until
then it looks like I am stuck playing against the computer and tweaking my
setups.  Good thing that this is just as effective for practice as racing a
human would be.

Remember, real men don't wear bowties!!!!

See Ya,
Russ
