Don't temp me !

As far as I can tell, the ONLY 3 true driving sims out there are GPL,
Papyrus' Nascar series and F12002+GTR2002. That leaves a bit of a chasm
between games doesn't it ? (not including demo's and beta's here)
No one is required to enjoy the games, I have no problems with that. I take
issue with the fact that you all seem to derive great pleasure from
belittling a company for having the audacity to release a game that they
have clearly put time and effort into, just because it doesn't meet the
standards of the games mentioned above. So this group is here for the sole
purpose of condeming all other "nearly" sims and taking the***?
To me, that is lame.

From Codemasters website:

"State-of-the-art car physics engine, tested for realism by professional
race drivers."

So if the three sims you have referred to are the current benchmarks,
either they are all wrong or TOCA doesn't deliver the claim.

I understand your point about it being a fun racing game, yet the claim
here is that it should also be a great driving simulation. Now I know it is
not the first to have some marketing hype exaggerating capability, yet that
still leaves it ripe for criticism in my view.

If they claim it & don't deliver they deserve a little belittling :)

If that's their claim on the box, then it's a fair cop. But it still doesn't
deserve the slating it's getting.  I, for one, have played far,far worse
"sims" than this one. How about some positives on the damage model, sounds,
collision detection and the races themselves. Hopefully all these things
will be put to better use in future Codemaster driving/racing games. I'm
aware that most regs on here are more passionate than I am about state of
the art physics etc...but it sure leaves a *** taste when people start
throwing the abuse around.

Depends on what it claims to be racing.  Maybe TOCA Race driver or whatever
it's called is a slug racing sim with slugs disguised as cars?

So we'll agree to disagree here.  The challenge of *driving* fast and on the
limit alongside a bunch of others in the same situation is what makes a auto
racing fun for me, be it spectating the real thing or racing online.

Mark.....that is what Toca Race Driver offers...it takes time to find it but
its there.

Set up of the car and steering is vital.

Online is such a buzz been having laughs all weekend.

What are you talking about?  If someone tries the demo and doesn't like it,
does that automatically make them an 'RAS Bigot'?  So what if it's a sim(or
not)?  If it's fun to play to a person, that person will buy it - period.
Hell, I spent SERIOUS time playing ReVolt.  That's a game you can drive with a
KEYBOARD, and it sat still fun as hell.

Eldred - damn, now I wanna play ReVolt again...

Tried it online a few times too out at The Zone.  THAT was really fun.

Evidently you do

"All I see is a bunch of self-righteous hypocrites who wouldn't know "fun"
if
it jumped out of a box and slapped them around the face."

So how do all the people who have "shown their hands" without having  played
the game(demo) give a fair assessment of whether or not the game is fun ?
If they play it, and don't like it, or don't get any fun out of it, that's
fine. But to condemn it just because the regular RAS cronies, including
yourself, say it's crap, that's the sad part.

You assume they've not tried the demo - I'd imagine most have.

I have.

It was shite

Judging from posts on this thread, Codemasters has a lot of work in front of
them to get this game ready for retail release. It sounds like most of you
thought the game was going to be a sim. It is not. They need to position
this game clearly as a game and not a sim. This game owes more to Need For
Speed than GPL. Further, the game is not well excuted. Personally, I am
tired of developers releasing sub standard ***at a premium price with the
hope that they can patch it into some semblance of a decent offering.

Not buying. I liked TOCA1 and 2 and Colin. I drove the demo and didn't
have any steering at all. Kept slamming left and right into the walls
at Brands. During install it caused my system to lock up twice. I am
enjoying the multitude of MODs coming out for F1 2K2 and having a go
at NR2003, still driving GTR2002 and GPL too and a newly acquired real
life Suzuki motorbike... So it will have to be a great game that would
keep me from wasting valuable driving time in all of this funstuff
