show of hands -- who will NOT buy TOCA?

I won't be buying it, and I don't do warez anyway. So I won't be playing
it either, unless a friend insists on me having a go.

I will buy it in four to six months when it's sitting, covered in dust on
the shelf and severely marked down like every other driving sim it seems.
And the only reason I will buy it is because it's got an Eagle Talon in
it... just for sh*ts and giggles because I used to own one of those cars.

>Codemasters, listen up!

>A show of hands please -- based on the TOCA demo, who will *NOT* be
>buying the game?

Hell, I won't buy it based on the demo of the old TOCA 2 program.  How
intelligent is it to make a demo that turns potential customers away from the
retail version?  That's what happened to me with TOCA 2.  It was only about a
year later that I saw someone say the retail version was much better than the
demo.  Ponderous, man...

More sheep than that by now and who cares if Codemasters is contacted, if
they care they would read this newsgroup and find out what peeps think. I
want to know who approved that demo for release, idiot! ( not you, the guy
who is responsible for the demo release.)

Nice attitude.  If I'm a sheep you're a humourless ***.  What's wrong
with people having a bit of fun and taking the piss?

I don't "do" warez.  Anyways, if it's shit, and by all accounts here
it's a complete turd, why would I feckin bother wasting my time?

I've got time for the occasional lurk and post here at a slow point at
work, but play time is at a premium.  I don't have enought time for
the stuff I *do* like never mind warezing shite.

All I see is a bunch of self-righteous hypocrites who wouldn't know "fun" if
it jumped out of a box and slapped them around the face.
If your idea of fun is taking the***out of a computer games manufacturer
just because their latest creation doesn't meet or exceed your oh so
knowledgeable physics standards, the all I can say is
..................................... Baaaa.
Codemasters seem to be the one's taking the piss. If it's as bad as you lot
say, and people are still buying it, then who looks more foolish ??? Even
the venerable Goy Larson say's this..."I have it and I'm kinda enjoying it
in a laid-back sort of way, but then
again I didn't install it expecting a SIM
"
So perhaps Codemasters didn't even entertain the thought of putting out the
ultimate driving sim, eh ? Just a game that might be "FUN" !

VERY well said redted...**clap clap clap**

I agree 100% ,i love GTR 2002 and i love Nascar 2003 and i see the values
they hold but Toca Race Driver has its own differing values and the bigots
just dont even want to look for them. They are robots...

Thought process of a RAS Bigot :-

New game --- Is it Sim ?----Yes---I love it
                                      ----No----I hate it

Your loss...

The point is Codies do call it a racing simulation and promote it on the
basis of realism. If you claim to make one, it has to be one. Simple as
that.

Besides, on a personal note... how can it be "fun" if it doesn't run?

There is no such thing as a RAS bigot. There's just RAS loonies defending
substandard games and running out of arguments.

TOCA Race Driver is poorly executed, no matter what angle you approach the
game from. I know it's had some rave reviews, I just wish those reviewers
would explain how they got the game to play the way they describe, because
it's nothing like what I and a load of others are experiencing with either
the demo or the full game.

Perhaps a racing simulation is different to a driving simulation. Hmmm? The
racing is great fun and as such, can claim to be a racing sim.
As for it not running, I know 3 people who have the full retail game and a
couple with the warez version and I have had 2 demo's. All are running fine.

Perhaps it is, but that's beside the point.

It doesn't simulate the racing it portrays to within any reasonable degree
of accuracy either. It's an arcade racer in a real world setting. Not a
simulation.

Very good for you. The first demo ran, but the menus were corrupted. In the
second demo the menus are ok, but it crashes to desktop when I want to start
driving. Same PC. I've asked around, there's people with the exact same
config not having this problem. I'm stumped, but I can't be arsed to do a
full re-install (some 20 odd hours of work) to get a game demo of a genre
that doesn't represent my main interest in *** to run.

I really have to disagree here(that's not like me, I know), but racing is
racing is racing. Cars, horses, slugs..whatever. How can any game that is
classed as a "racing" game not be a simulation of racing ?
Whether it passes the physical benchmarks required for it to be called a
"driving sim" is irrelevant.

What does the "S" in RAS stand for???

Look, we all enjoy "non-simlator" games now and then. NFS:PU is a great
example. But when the game's physics are so lame, it's not enjoyable.
Are we all required to enjoy all driving/racing games just because of
what they are?
