Ferrari Wheel strangeness

Ferrari Wheel strangeness

Installing my trusty Guillemot Ferrari (old one with the good pedals) FFB
wheel on a new system.

Installed from the CD and all looked fine.  "Re-installed" using the 1.23
drivers I have used since I got the wheel (but remembered you had to use the
CD first) and although the wheel seemed to work, I no longer got the splash
screen and sound when activating the wheel.

Then, I went to the Guillemot site and noticed that they have a new driver
available version 2.36.  I have never heard of this before and thought the
only update was the Thrustmaster driver and "mapper", which doesn't work
well at all.  Anyway, I tried updating to this version, which changes the
control panel a bit.  Unfortunately, it always read my brake pedal as being
half way depressed and the wheel axis didn't respond normally either.

I returned to the 1.23 drivers (using the clean utility between each
downward change), but still don't have the splash screen/sound.  I am not
sure if it makes a difference--I actually prefer not to have it as long as
the wheel works.

What is the deal with these 2.36 drivers, though?  Are they only for the
newer TM Ferrari or maybe for some other FFB wheel?  The picture in the
control panel looks like the Ferrari wheel, though (new one with the dinky
pedals).

The 2.3.6 works with the Guillemot Ferrari wheel. That's what I have. I got
the drivers here http://uk.guillemot.com/corp/liens/indexlien.html (hit the
drivers/download link at the bottom of the page). These drivers don't have
the Thrustmapper utility. They work fine with every title I've tried so far
except I had to do a clean install of the drivers to get F12001 to work
correctly.

Regarding brake pedal. It is probably old calibration data left on
your computer. Use DXTweak from "Wingamn Team" site. Use it
to clean all calibration data. You have to use it without turning on the
wheel. When you clean the data, never use that utility with your wheel
turned on, because it will store new calibration data. TM Ferrari will
then superimpose it's data over that which is stored, and again you will
see red stripes on brake and gas, and your wheel not centered.
It's all because TM Ferrari doesn't change the calibration data, but
rather superimpose it's data on already stored one.
Use this utility fast, because it tend to lock computer, either
immediately or after some time. Or use something else to clean data.

Do you think Mario's theory is correct as to why I have skewed steering and
half a brake pedal travel when I try to use the 2.36's?  Any advantages to
these over the 1.23's?

Another thing I overlooked myself, lol. 2.3.6. driver wasn't made
for Windows 98, but for Windows 98SE.

I am using SE, but have never heard of anything that would be so specific it
would run on SE, but not regular 98.

One other question to both you and Mario.  How should the 2.36 driver be
installed when i have 1.23 already?  Assuming I wipe the calibration data,
do I have the wheel on or off during the update?  Should I Wclean the old
set-up first?

The TM mapper and driver install was such a nightmare to get rid of, I don't
want to go down that path again!

Thanks,

Marc

I didn't have the wheel on during the update. If you download the 2.3.6's
from the site I gave in my other post, they don't include Thrustmapper. You
just click on it and it upgrades your current drivers.

I don't have any idea if Mario's suggestions will work or not.
