Has anybody worked out yet a useable gear ratio config for Watkins Glen?

Any T/A mod set-up help greatfully received.

Sorted it out now, didn't realise I had to go so low on the ratio, damn
these cars are *fast*

Just did the Masta Kink at Spa (GPL) version, flat out no lift at 202mph
Wheeeeeee!, I've never managed it flat before - it's wasn't totally
grippy but the confidence and ability to power/steer your way out of
trouble adds so much.

I fear I may never run Cup cars again, ever.

Surely others are running T?A physics by now?
(Or is the quiet precisely *because* others are too busy
driving/grinning to post?)

Could be because several million of them are without power right now.  Mine
just came back on an hour ago.

Is the TA mod available? I thought only the BGN deal was currently
available....

The mod is not available, but Jan Kohl posted some instructions on how
to unlock the physics while using the cup cars, the TA handles
beautifully and I cannot wait for this mod to be fully realised.

See: http://www.tptcc.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=609
(It took me an hour to do some 70 cars, but you only need to do 1 to
test drive alone rather than race)

Just upped the ante to 207mph thru Masta Kink FLAT no lift wheeee!

Come on, now theres a challenge, I can't race multiplayer with it yet so
have to have *some* competition, who's gonna beat me at a Masta Kink T?A
challenge *throws down gauntlet*

I should add that you need to be patched with the leaked/semi-released
1.1.0.2 version *and* the Project Wildfire Busch Grand National mod
before following the above instruction for TRans Am, The PWF BGN Mod is
available at various mirrors now.

Maybe too late for you but if anyone else is interested I found these to be
reasonable:

Diff.      3.625
1st        2.067
2nd       1.611
3rd        1.350
4th        1.185
5th        1.083
6th        1.000

That's a pretty reasonable close ratio gear set.  Use the diff ratio to
adjust if you find yourself redlining (which you might since I am still a
bit slow here), but I think the ratio spacing is pretty good.

BTW this is probably not the final TA physics.  I noticed the ride height
still has the NASCAR limitations, whereas T/A rules allow the car to go down
to 2.5 inches of ground clearance.  Also the wing angle should only go to 30
degrees.  There are probably more things that need to be changed too, like
the track bar, etc.  The rules can be found here:

http://www.trans-amseries.com:24009/p/file.pl/502/2003%20Technical%20...

Really this seems more like NASCAR physics with just a lighter car, more
downforce, and 2 more gears.  Nevertheless it is already HUGE fun.  Looking
forward to the final version.

Whoops, scratch what I said about the track bar, they use live axles so
track bars are allowed.  Boy these things are almost as primitive as NASCAR.
BTW unless that link is old the rules only allow 5 speed trannies.  Can
anybody clarify?  Are the rules posted online out of date or am I just
looking at the wrong race series altogether?

The clue is to set your top gear to 1:1.000 and adjust the final-drive
(differential-ratio) to match your top speed - and then adjust the rest of
the box to match.

Unless fuel economy is a vital factor - you never want overdrive on a
racecar.

From what I've understood - we'll be forced to live with the
limitations/settings of the original NASCAR-garage.

Real shame 'cause it sort of limits and ruins the simulation of a T/A-car.

All other things being equal, what is the difference between the
following gear sets:

top gear 1.00 + rear gear 4.00 = 4.00 final gear
top gear 0.77 + rear gear 5.17 = 4.00 final gear (approx)

i.e. why not overdrive if the final drive ratio is the same?  Or am I
so far out in left field I don't even know it?  Educate me.

Thanks,
Gerald

Doubt that it makes any difference in a sim.  In real life it makes a
difference to gear strength and durability.  The higher the diff ratio the
weaker the diff is going to be.
