Pulling out of the pits....

Pulling out of the pits....

Now he tells us! Next you'll be telling us it's in the manual... which
reminds me, must have a look at it some time :-)

I have to confess that my pulling out technique involves leaning over to try
and get a better view in the left mirror. Doesn't work, and I know it doesn't
work, but I still find myself doing it <g>

One thing I do try to do is "PO" just before I pull out onto the track, not just
before I actually start the car. And at the Glen I found -- to be on the safe
side --  you can actually drive on the grass on the RHS of the track until
you're well round the corner, where drivers have a slightly better chance of
avoiding you (especially as they tend to drift left off the racing line on fast
laps).

Overall though I suspect the shift V thing is a *marginally* better solution
;-)

PS If memory serves me right (actually it's the receipt for my wheel/pedals
bought the day after the demo was released) the demo was out on April
7th last year. Anyone got any plans for a birthday party? Mass gang-prang
on VROC? Competition for fastest lap of the Ring in reverse? <choke>

Heh, oops. I've only raced Watkins Glen on VROC/online, maybe that is
why I always see a green flag when leaving the pits. :-)

It seems that I've been corrected a lot by Randy and Eric. Correctly
of course, but lets try another:

I think the GPL 1.1 patch is NOT released tomorrow. :-)

Waiting.....

I've always wondered what "PO" meant when racing online. I considered
"Pull over", but there was never any indication of who should pull over.
Then I figured it might stand for "Piss off", and, considering some of
the things that happen online, this was the meaning I settled on. Well.

So, now, what DO people say when they are Pissed off, or want to say
***off? Surely all that typing isn't worth it! ;-)
I *HATE* being behind a firewall. Somehow GPL doesn't connect right.
Well, known problem, but I'm hoping for the (probably one and only)
patch to correct things for oh so many people behind firewalls.
Sorry, got to get that of my chest and waste bandwidth like this.
Can't even enjoy online racing now.

IMO the best thing is to say nothing.  The more chat that's there to see
equals more distractions.

Every time I host a race someone just logging on HAS to say "HI".   I
feel compelled to respond and start to loose concentration.  Even worse is
when there's a conversation going on...  I hope no one considers me
impolite/inconsierate/ ect... by not responding to any questions,  But,  I'm
going to turn the chat mode off and wait till I've finished the race to open
the chat notepad.

Yes, Mike, I agree wholeheartedly... There was NO talk in the Elite race
in the GPLWS race practice. The way it should be.

But there was a LOT of ... PO for Pit Out. PO is ESSENTIAL! At Zandy
it's not bad, cuz there is no pit wall and you can see people, but at
the Glen... that's another story.

My simple request to ALL VROC racers... use PO when you are exiting the
pits. Thanks! :-)

I have always disagreed with this actually. Ok, so it gives you notice
that someone is pulling out of the pits. But so what? If they get in the
way then they get in the way! Whether they give the "PO" message or not
makes no difference if they are inconsiderate after the "PO" or if the
process is awkward as it is at the Glen. Randy's Shift - V method
combined with proper manners is the only worthwhile solution.

I'm sorry to everyone, but I never use "PO", and others
doing it doesn't help me at all.

What I do, and hope everyone else will begin doing, is
set my mirrors to "cars only", and check them before
pulling out of the pits.  I never pull out if someone
else is coming.  I'm often amazed at how others will
pull out in front of people, as if "PO" gave them the
right of way.

Byron... yep, I agree that the "Shift-V, Control-V shuffle" is the
*best* way, but I still believe in a PO, before leaving...

Just my 2 cents,

PO,
