Nascar 3 and Force Feedback?!?

Im not an expert on this game or Force feedback, but it seems to me that force
feedback was fairly new when N3 came out in 99 (at least in a home user field)
but even more rare in racing wheel so i imagine if Papyrus does there homework
and research AI and Graphics and Physics and SOund they might over look making a
more established force feedback interface, but with the growing interest, we
might get lucky!!!!!!

Tracey... boy you have long to learn about serious simulations.

I suggest you go buy the software called "Grand Prix Legends", developed by
Papyrus so you can enjoy the best Force-Feedback implementation of all
current racing titles, and a very big step ahead of the pack.

ummm.... have you ever driven a car in which you can feel the engine running
through the steering wheel? if so, i suggest you have the motor mounts
checked.

point is, N3 is (supposed to be) a sim, so effects that wouldn't be felt in
real life are not modeled (of course, as soon as i say that, someone will
bring up the whole tire squeal thing, but i think the point is valid)

that said, the effects they do model are a bit weak IMO, especially compared
to GPL....
so, no- you won't feel the motor running through the wheel in N3. why would
you want to? it would take away from the more sublte feeling of traction
loss when pushing, for example...

if you bought a FF wheel for N3, i suspect you'll be disappointed.
especially if you like NFS-type dramatics. OTOH, buying a FF wheel for GPL
is a great idea :)

Hm, yeah, well, it's a bit better now. But this only improved the effects I
already felt. I still don't feel the engine running and I still feel nothing
when I shift gear (which is really nicely done in NFS 3). I expected more
different effects, I guess.

THE main reason that N3's force feedback is lacking is because of the
physics engine the FF is based on. The current physics engine is based,
essentially, on the same 2-dimensional engine that NASCAR 1 was based on. As
such, there's really not of input from the physics engine to send to the
wheel. Grand Prix Legend's physics engine, on the other hand, offers
tremendous output to the steering wheel.

I know I'm gonna get flamed <ducking> but am I the only one that didnt care
for the FF effects in GPL? Som were good, but some seemed over exaggerated
to me.

Ditto; tried it with a LWFF using the popular recommended settings and lots
of variations in between, but just couldn't warm up to it.  I liked what
they were shooting for, but it actually reduced the immersion effect of the
game for me.  It just never felt "natural".  If I remember correctly, even
the folks at Papy were quoted saying it wasn't quite what they were after.
Hope they keep trying, though.

Cheers,

Steve B.

Well no problem with that, it's a normal thing.  Nothing can be appreciated

Has anyone got the FF to work in N3 on W2K?
