patch for N2 totally sucked. Well I really do like the 3dfx support
in NR1999. Everything does look how I expected it to look. I fired
up N2 and did a comparison after running NR1999. For one
thing N2 is *WAY* more pixilated the NR1999-3dfx. There is no
weird fogging stuff going on either. All in all I really am satisfied with
the game so far.
Things I really don't like are the reported slowdowns in the corners.
If I can run a MS-FF wheel with the DOS version of this game I'll
probably be satisfied. I just want to be able to do modem racing with
my race'n buddy. If it won't work, I'll may well return the game.
It really blows me away that the box clearly advertises that this
game is for Windows95/98. Then after you install the game you
get a window which basically says, "Awe shit, if you want to do
multiplayer of any kind you need to run the DOS exe's." My
initial reaction to that, was well *** you :-) However we will
see how it goes. But as far as I am concerned this is blatant
false (or misleading) advertising. Pretty much at it's worse.
I saw no indication on the box that DOS would be needed
let alone for multiplayer (which is basically what I am getting
the game for, i.e. Win95 version of N2 which uses the latest
FF wheels in multiplayer).
One last thing. The Soundset program identified my Ensoniq
AudioPCI as an Ensoniq Soundscape. Only problem is it
didn't work when I ran the game, I got this distorted screechy
sound. I reran Soundset an selected "SoundBlaster Stereo"
and all is fine. So anyone with an AudioPCI, should select
"SoundBlaster Stereo" IMHO.
