GP3 looks great on my system. Having gone back to GPL tonight (which I love)
for a few laps, for the first time it seemed pretty creaky after playing GP3
these last few days.

% Crammond is releasing stage 2 now, finally, and hopefully if GP3 sells
% well he will be able to give us the sim we all want in stage 3 with
% GP4. I just think we need to stop acting like spoiled brats because we
% didn't get everything we wanted right now.

Don't hold your breath.... this does not appear to be in the cards
according to Hasbro's press releases.... We will see minor updates to
cars/tracks/drivers etc.  They may work on turning on some of the still
missing features (pit radio communication, etc.).  But I don't foresee a
major re-write of the code until the current licenses run out.

Maybe because Papyrus didn't take 4 years between programs?

But Tracey, is 4 years too tight for a deadline?  Crammond said he started
working on the title 3months after GP2's release, if we trust his words
(yeah right!).

Nice *** theory.  But seeing how low-key GC is (not caring about his
customers at all), and how "Derek Smartist" he is, your story could be true.

Who bashed you? We all were quite pissed off when Papyrus decided to not put
the new game engine in Nascar Racing 3.  It was pretty much a concensus that
it was a dissapointment.  Of course some people have different opinions? Can
you accept that and not put everybody in the same basket?

I agree. Regardless wether I will be happy with GP3 or not (personally
i think I will), it doesn't look good for people who expect a total
rewrite of some of the core aspects of GP3 in GP4/5.

I didn't say that.  The question was, why are people giving Crammond so much
more grief than they gave Papyrus.  I offered one suggestion.  And, if you
remember correctly, people WERE pissed at the 'incremental' approach to Nascar
2-3, and the CTS, etc.  I wasn't going to buy N3 until the price came down.  I
don't have force feedback, and the graphics 'extras' that people said were in
it just wasn't worth paying full price IMO.  I ended up buying it because
someone created a benefit *I* wanted - I could convert the tracks to GPL.  No,
it's NEVER ok to create "shit" software.  Some people's definition of that are
different than others...

>Interesting question and one I didn't initially ask myself... I was

I was so disappointed that I never bought it, and still haven't. Nor
NASCAR Legends based upon the same engine. Those are the first "sims"
that I haven't bought (yep, even including CPR....!).

I think my disappointment was heightened by the fact that I had tried
the "GPL" version of NASCAR some time before that and _loved_ it, and
to go back to the same old "N2" version seemed such a massive backward
step from what had been developed up to that point.

I'm sure the decisions were made for the correct reasons at the time,
but doesnt mean I have to like them or finance them.

We got better 3D support, FF and new tracks _free_ with GPL. It's all
down to definition, but by my estimation such things are an
incremental improvement, a patch or at best an add-on pack. They don't
consitute a whole new product. Of course anything is possible, I've
seen the FIFA soccer game sold now many times over with a different
number on the end and some new features, but if you soil your market
with many releases of questionable value and/or difficult to
distinguish from the previous one you will pay a penalty at some point
in the future.

Cheers!
John
