Achim...
Thanks for your compliments on the Phoenix track.....you have good eyes for
graphic detail and realism....so I appreciate those comments a lot.
I do want to say something in defense of Papy's graphics:
I don't have to stick to the "pixel budgets" for graphics as they must.
They have to produce a broad spectrum racing sim that can run on many levels
of computers......or greatly restrict their "sales" due to a high "minimum
specification" requirement. A lot of what I do to improve the sense of
realism in the Papyrus track graphics is increase the resolution of the
TSO's and racing surfaces. Papy could do that too.....but then they'd blow
their pixel budgets out the window. So, even if Papy wanted me to help out
with their N2003 graphics....I doubt I would do much better than they
already do....if I had to stick to their pixel budgets, too!
Perhaps what I could help them with.....is keeping the coloring and tones
true to life. They just don't seem to be able to do a good job of that, for
some reason. Its universal with all of their NASCAR series simulations.
And, I'm not really sure why that is?
I'm really looking forward to N2003..."The Final Edition" as they seem to be
calling it. And...I'm hoping that some of this previous graphics work on
N2K2 can be ported over. If not, I'll do the N2K3 tracks from
scratch.....I'm getting pretty good at knowing what to do, and how to do it.
I've only been doing this to Papy tracks for about 5 years....LOL....!!!!
I'm also hoping that the code and internal programming for N2K3 will be more
"open"......if it becomes as open as GPL has....then we are looking at that
being the definitive NASCAR racing sim for many, many years. At least, that
is what I think it will be for the "*** sim racing community." I just
don't see EA's sims being anything more than the commercial,
barely-above-arcade-level games that they have been of recent years. That's
okay though.....remember.....the *** sim racing community is made up of
serious sim racers.....who first started out with some kind of arcade racing
game. So, in that regard....EA is helping this sim racing community just as
much as Papy is....with their realistic racing titles. EA is helping
"recruit" new members to the *** sim racing community. So, I think we
should help them along.....as much as we have Papy in that respect.
Thanks again for the kind remarks, Achim......
Cheers,
Tom
