We've come through the middle of the season without disbanding entirely and
I think that's a good sign. :-) F2 at 50% with full damage has turned out to
be everything we expected. It is challenging, without question, and takes
all the skill that a dedicated sim racer has to give. There has been a
slight drop off in attendance, but we've picked up three new drivers well
after mid-season and all three are on the track scoring points and making
sure that we know they are here and that they are serious.
Asgeir has found his inner speed demon and has been *** since mid
season by being both quick and steady. Unfortunately, real life has gotten
in the way for Mike B. (as well as others) so he has not been able to score
to his full potential. These two things combined have given us a leader
change and with six races left it will be very interesting to see what
happens at the top of the chart. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd are very close.
Statistically, places 2 through 14 have a shot at the title and 4 through 8
still have a pretty decent shot. (This is racing, after all.)
I've been sloppy of late, and getting my suspension bent by NOT hitting Mark
at Zandy didn't help any. Fulvio is only 30 points behind the top three
having only run 9 races. Makes you think, eh? Get this! Unofficial Rookie Of
The Year, Joop "Natas" Smulders, is firmly in 5th place with a potential to
rise even higher! (I'd like to take this opportunity to nominate Natas as
Rookie of the Year.) Joe S. and Karl have had a hard time getting to the
track but have still managed to score 100 points each in only 8 and 9 races.
Mark Seery, our gracious founder has most certainly had his share of
internet abuse.... and my share... and Jan's... and.... but still manages to
bring in 9 and 2/3 points a race.
David, Art, George B., Joe R., Rob and Steve have all had their struggles in
being able to race but have ended up in a pretty good points race anyway.
Mike H., George F. and Andy all went out pretty early on but I'm sure we all
agree that, whether they find the time to race with us or not, they are the
stuff that the GPVL is made of. Good solid racers with excellent attitudes.
Matter of fact, currently active in the league or not, I think everyone on
the roster represents exactly the kind of guy I want to be on the virtual
track with on my Sunday afternoons. So, if any of you guys feel like joining
us, please don't let a little time between us or a points race discourage
you, we are still out there on Sundays and ready to race.
Which brings me to the new guys. Morten Salomonsen and Michael Lynn look
like GPVLers right out of the gate. Quick, solid, conscientious, what great
additions to the league. That Verschueren guy though... who gave him our
URL? I'm considering bringing back protesting.
The VegeServer is working better than ever and needs to be tested to see if
it really can handle 19 drivers now. 6 races left, anything can happen, so
come out and help us make this one a memorable one.
