I've been thinking the same thing...there's always SOMETHING around the house
that needs fixing... :-(

Tell me about it! My Honda Civic made my wife car-sick so when we cut back
to 1 car we kept the "Tractor".

Lemme see: safety: 0/10 (soft top, roll over potential). Appearance: 2/10
(boxy little shit box of a jeep-wannabe). Handling: 2/10 (narrow track,
super soft suspension, gutless engine). Reliability: 8 (so far it hasn't had
any problems despite no real maintenance). Economy: 5/10 (aerodynamics of a
brick, mileage sucks but at least the engine is small so it could be worse).
Convenience: 2/10 (you can either carry 2 people and their luggage or 4
people but not both).

Problem is, the new car will be another SUV of some kind, probably a Nissan
XTerra. I'm doomed to drive lumbering trucks for the rest of my life. I just
want another Honda (lovely, fun car!).

I didn't see the previous post, but from your description I figured this HAD
to be a Suzuki Samuri.

Isn't the Tracker based on Samuri, under GM's "GEO" program ?

My boss of many years ago, in the early 1990's, had one of these dreadful
Samuri's he gave us as a work truck.

I couldn't deal with thing.  I started using my own car and just ate the
mileage.

That Suzuki Samuri was, without a doubt, the nastiest, meanest, roughest,
scariest, most dangerous vehicle I have ever driven.

The Tracker is somewhat less dangerous than the Samurai. It's a bit wider
and lower so has less tendency to roll. It's basically the same class of
vehicle, just slightly improved to pass newer safety standards (that were
probably developed to get Samurai's off the road!).

I don't know the heritage of the thing. I didn't realize Suzuki was under
the GM banner too. The Geo Tracker is also known as the Chevy Tracker and
the Asuna SunRunner. As far as I can tell the basic car is the same, just
the badging differs between models.

The wheelbase is so short the poor rear seat passengers get bounced by every
little bump. I think the reason the suspension is so soft is to keep the
thing from bouncing right off the ground. Problem is, it makes it wander
seriously in cross winds (or gusts from passing semis).

I have ridden in a Samurai (a late-80's I think) and the Tracker is
definitely less scary than the Samurai but not much.

I do have to admit though, on moderate 4x4 terrain, the thing does OK. The
short wheelbase and low power works well on bumpy or snowy roads. It just
sucks on pavement. Oh, and the brakes are quite good. I've had to emergency
stop a couple of times and it gets stopped in a straight line quite nicely.
