Great.  My kids just bought an XBOX and EA Sports F1 2001.  My question
is for recommendations on the best steering wheel/pedal setup.

We're really looking for the best to play both F1 and NASCAR.  Have
heard good things about Madcats MC2 Racing Wheel.

Have any of you played with that wheel?  Can you recommend it?  What are
other good brands?  Thanks.

You could try it, but I've never seen any topics about it (or any
console systems) in here. Mainly racing games played on the PC..

Stick around for 6 months or so and I believe you'll see more and more XBox,
PS2 and GameCube topics here. Face it, the consoles are catching up. Maybe
one day we'll even see a console game that will merit the term "simulator".

Not that I'm buying one any time soon. The only reason I can play games as
much as I do is because I can do it without tying up the TV. If (god forbid)
my wife ever needs to use the PC I may have to reconsider...

What you do is take this into consideration now. It is acutally a GREAT
excuse to get a new computer. The old AMD 1.4 that you got six months ago
OBVIOUSLY can not supply enough power for your computer, so you will have to
buy a complete new box for yourself, and give your wife the old computer.
Lol, hope that this works for someone...

Lol, you wanna convince her of that? Pretty accurate though - it was a 1.3
AMD and it was about 4 months ago. Unfortunately it was a completely new
box, and I gave the old one to my parents (what was I thinking?!?).

A new PC is therefore at least 2 more years in the future. First comes a
bathroom reno, a new deck, and possibly a new car (to replace an aging Geo
Tracker, yuck!). Why oh why did I buy a house?

Because you can't sleep in your car :)  Maybe that's why I bought a
house instead of a new car.

Correction- you CAN sleep in your car, but you can't drive your house to
Cancun. Unless you happen to be a motor coach-driving retiree, that is ;)

I'm in the same boat as you.  I have an Xbox, F1 2001, NASCAR Heat, and
Project Gotham Racing.  PGR I can almost play with the gamepad, and the
ovals in Heat aren't too bad, but I cannot get used to F1 2001.  (OTOH
on the PC I still suck almost as badly even with a wheel ;o).  The only
wheels that I have seen so far are the one you mentioned, and a similar
product from Thrustmaster.  I haven't tried them, but I doubt that you
would be disappointed in either one.  Just bear in mind that even though
they advertise force feedback, it is just rumble effects, not true FF.
True FF MIGHT be on the way from a certain company starting with the
letter L, but that's just an unofficial rumor and you didn't hear it
from me.  ;o)

In case no one has mentioned it yet: ActLabs is most likely creating
cartridge(s) to make ActLabs wheels compatible with XBox and PS2.   The
ActLabs wheels use cartridges that you can plug in to make compatible with
different platforms.  They already work with the PC, N64, Dreamcast, and
Playstation.
On the ActLabs message board an ActLabs employee said:   "ACT LABS is
committed to making our Racing Systems future proof. This has always been
and always will be a cornerstone for our development. You will definitely
see us in there with XBOX compatibility... Please be patient and wait for an
official announcement."
And there is this statment on the web page: "We do not currently offer a
cartridge for the PlayStation 2 platform however one is in development but
there is no set release date."

have a question for you guys with the XBOX
how does the graphic compares with PS2 and PC ??

I have seen the PS2 on analog TV and it is nothing
to talk about , comparing to the PC.

2001, NASCAR Heat, and
the gamepad, and the
wheel ;o).  The only
mentioned, and a similar
mind that even though
effects, not true FF.

Xbox graphics, just like PC graphics, depend a great deal on how good of
a job the developer did, but in the best cases (Dead or Alive 3, Halo)
they are just so drop dead gorgeous that it's hard to believe you are
looking at a 640x480 screen with no FSAA.  That's right, none of the
current developers are using FSAA even though the capability is built
into the chipset, and all of the current games are rendered at 640x480
regardless of what mode your TV is in.  But through careful choice of
color palettes and clever use of real time lighting and pixel shaders to
create various effects, the jaggies are just not that noticeable.
Honestly the lighting is the best I have seen on any platform.
Theoretically you could do the same thing with a GF3, but currently no
games for the PC use the GF3's capabilities to the degree that the Xbox
does.  An Xbox on an HDTV would be the best graphics you can possibly
get in home *** right now, at least until the PC developers catch up.

>I have seen the PS2 on analog TV and it is nothing
>to talk about , comparing to the PC.

I'm not a good judge regarding the comparison on a great PC.

We've made a decision to go with the dedicated gamers for *** rather
than attempting to keep up with the ever increasing power requirements
of PCs.

I'm sure the XBOX will not be the final word on ***.  On the other
hand it only cost 300 bucks.  That's less than the cost of the great
video cards alone not to mention whole new PC systems--processors, RAM,
mobos...as the technologies move forward.  We use our PCs for the
Internet, word processing, money, photos...normal stuff.  And to be
honest, 400 MHz w/128 RAM is more than enough.  (Hell, I'm typing this
on a networked 166 MHz Pentium running Win98SE w/64M RAM.)  And I won't
even mention the headaches of drivers and devices one is forced to deal
with every time Micro$oft comes out with its new operating system of the
month.

Regarding the comparison with PS2, we did our homework and found the
graphics on XBOX to be overwhelmingly superior.
