Slightly OT: BIOS Flash Problem - Help!

by bertr » Mon, 10 Feb 2003 02:23:58

With the new racing sims coming out, I decided to upgrade my CPU from
Athlon XP1700 to Athlon XP2100 (T'bred), with plans to eventually
overclock it.

I had to update my Epox 8Kha+ Mobo's BIOS before installing my new
XP2100 Tbred CPU.  After flashing the BIOS successfully, according to
all messages, I rebooted and set my BIOS to optimized defaults, as
instructed.  However, now my boot sequence is successful only
intermittently.  I usually get a blue screen that says that system
memory is low.  Clicking OK to continue sometimes works (and I get to
the Windows desktop) and sometimes it doesn't (It locks up).

I tried re-installing the latest VIA 4 in 1 drivers for the mobo, but
that hasn't helped.

Does anyone have any idea what's causing the low memory message and what
I need to do to get this system running properly again?  Any suggestions
would be appreciated.

System is an Epox 8Kha+ mobo with 512 Megs of Crucial PC2100 RAM,
Win98SE, Radeon 8500LE vidcard.

Sorry for the OT post, but you guys are knowledgable.

Thanks!

If it boots successfully at all the flash went ok, you'll have to adjust
settings in the bios to cure the problem, choose safe settings to start and
tweak from there.
