I've found that this really is a function of your graphics card to
a great degree. With an apocalypse 5d the night stages were impossible.
It was simply too hard to see even with monitor brightness and contrast
to maximum. I couldn't understand how people were doing well on them.
Then I got a 3dfx card - suddenly it was loads clearer and you could see
beyond headlight range (albeit dimly).
If your card has some kind of brightness adjustment then try fiddling
with that - it might well help.
