I just ordered a Nascar Pro whell and pedals....someone has said I'll
probably need a game card...anyone know about this?....won't I just be able
to use my game port on the sound card?

Download and install the "propanel" utility fom Thrustmaster's website.
www.thrustmaster.com i believe. With it, you shouldn't have any problems
running without a gamecard. I have run a T2 and most recently a TSW2 like
that, with no problems.

I had a Thrustmaster ACM that outlived my T1, T2 and was used with my
Thrustmaster Pro. I removed the ACM when I bought an AWE64 and it worked fine.
I still use it like that to this day with no problems. The AWE64's game port
is much better than the SB16, which I had on my system with the ACM.

I presume the gamecard reads the resistance values of the wheel
axiis more consistantly and steadily that the soundcard gameport.
I've noticed recently in joystick calibration routines and other
places that the inputs from the joystick oscillate a lot, more
so with higher resistance readings. I think it's my AWE64's gameport,
rather than inaccurate pots in my T2 because the oscillations are
synchronised on all 4 axiis (this is a modified T2!), and the speed
of oscillation seems to be proportional to the total resistance of
all 4 axiis - if i turn all the way left, and press the gas down,
and have the brake off, then this gives the lowest total resistance
and the oscillation is almost gone, but when i reverse all thsoe
positions the oscillations are really bad - about 4-5% variation of
the axis reading with an oscillation of maybe 10-15Hz or so.
THis is where I expect a gamecard to be a great advantage, I would
hope it would read the values exactly with none of this weird
oscillation.

You should keep using the gamecard. it's more accurate. Otherwise
you could always donate it to me ;)

bye,
Grant.

I use the same wheel with my AWE64 game port with no problems.

I use a Thrustmaster T2 with a cheap Vibra 16 (a $14 soundcard with a
gameport). Though the manual said it was unlikely to work with cheap game
ports, I've never had a problem.

I think the main thing to remember here is how inexpensive a good game card is....
CH Products' Gamecard III is an excellent card and you can get it for as little as $20(US)
Your soundcard should only have to deal with sound, but when you run your wheel and
pedals through it you are making it work over time. A gamecard is a great thing to have,
this way your sound card won't get over worked. Some people even see better performance
or better control when using a gamecard versus a soundcard. In my opinion a gamecard is
well worth purchasing, cheap and effective!!

I use a SB AWE16 and the Pro-Panel utility available at Thrustmaster's web
site. I have no problems at all. I did break an accelerator spring and brake
spring, but got good service from TM and got an envelope of spares now. Have
fun.....

My recommendation is to try the setup with the soundcard and our ProPanel
application (the no-cost solution).  If this doesn't perform satisfactorily, go
with the ACM card (the low-cost solution).

The reality is that it will work on some systems and others that are seemingly
identical will not.  However, it is very rare that the dedicated game card
will not work.
