What's your racing seat like?

Hi Steve,

I forget what the basic kit model is, something like $700 - 1000 if I
remember correctly (which is about what a TSW/ECCI wheel costs). I know some
people look at it as being a seat with a wheel and peddles attached, but the
steering and peddle feel is really second to none (at least for me). The
fact that it has this nifty***pit (that I believe is modeled after a 96
Williams GP car) adds to it.

Funny, I never noticed the warranty stuff.

I know that Rory (the guy that runs Hyperstim Canada) supplied 6 or 10 units
to the Players Racing Indy car team a number of seasons back. They took them
around to a number of races (mainly in Canada), and had various yahoos
beating on them literally all day long and had no problems whatsoever.

I'd say that if you have warranty concerns, email Rory directly and ask.
Mine's been just fine and completely glitch free for the past 3+ years.

Also, they're going to be coming out with a USB version quite soon, and
another version to hook up to a Playstation/xBox/etc as well (if you're into
that sort of thing).

What's your racing seat like?

Tony,

ECCI (I have one--in daily use for 4 years with never a hitch) gave up on
the "civilian" market after their cheapest model went north of 2 grand (they
now sell only to commercial/industrial customers--Silicon Raceway & such).
I've never understood why the TSW stuff is so expensive.  Yes, it's built in
limited quantities with good quality materials, but they have the jigs and
sheet steel is cheap.  The wheel liike like it came from a 1973 Plymouth
Scamp.  People love their TSWs, tho....

What's your racing seat like?

> What's your setup to simulate a***pit like environment?

At the moment I don't simulate a***pit like enviroment. I have a lovely,
old, oak office desk. The sort a grade school teacher might have had circa
1930.

I do a bit better with the seat though. I took the driver's seat of a 1958
Porsche 356 and mounted it to a modern office chair base.

I've got a pile of materials collected with the intent of building a
dedicated GPL center, but havn't gotten around to it yet. It will more
closely resemble a sedan***pit though. It really is a better seating and
control position. The purpose of the extreme reclining position in '67
formula cars is for aerodynamics, which proved more valuable than an ideal
driving position.

We don't have that problem with sims, and I'll go for ideal driving
position, rather than historical accuracy.
