Damn, this movie is great! I really enjoyed it and the car trip home
from the cinema was faster than anytime before :)
Cool cars, cool races, cool girls - I really love it.

I'd really like to drive those cars in a car racing game, is anyone
planning
to build one of the models in the movie? :)
What do you think about the "fast and the furious"?

(btw, I hope this isn't too off-topic)

Ciao!

Well, I know you can modify the heck out of the cars in the Gran Turismo
series...

Personally I thought the movie was horrible and terribly unrealistic

As for a racing game. Check out Supercar Street Challenge.  It looks like it
may be the kind of game you are looking for.  Although I have not played it
so I can not comment on the "fun" factor

After the first street race I stopped the movie and didn't watch the
rest. Does it become better after the first 20 minutes?

No, the car paint jobs do get progressively worse though :D

And like another reply said- Gran Turismo 2 (PSX or emulator on your PC)
would be the best bet to drive the cars (including a Charger I think, along
with the supras) no VW Jettas that I'm aware of though!

no, but that's part of its charm :-) it is pretty awful. dialogue is
laughable, and racing skill is reduced to keeping it in a straight
line and hitting the NOS button at the right time. i _had_ to watch it
cos my mate has a honda s2000, and one appears (complete with NOS
button) in a drag race 1/2 way through.  there was much cheering at
this point.

but i admit to enjoying the movie, in my own strange way.

and it looks like there's going to be a sequel. working title:
TFATF2: this time we do corners.

Only good car was the Muscle car at the end :)

I still think it was funny how all the cars in the movie had decals on the
side straight out of a 80s movie :)

But I was devistated when they trashed it. ;/

I went to see it the week it opened. You should have seen some of the
shit wagons out in the parking lot. There must've been a hundred
crappy Hyundai's and Civics with big fart can exhausts, neon lights
underneath, loud stereos, giant Japanese writing, and ridiculous
looking spoilers and body cladding on them -most of it still in primer
gray. It was like a clown parade as they were all leaving.

I try to keep an open mind, but I cannot imagine the appeal of these 4
cylinder 90 horsepower grandma shitboxes done up like this.

Me too, but then I open up the throttle on my 70 El Camino and let them know
how I really feel.  Plus, they can tell me if a taillight is out :-)

I think the appeal is the low cost of ownership.
I kinda like the looks of a basic Civic, they can be a smooth looking car
(stock that is).
I like it's lines.    They are certainly affordable.

However I think the Japanese car to beat is this one.   ;-)

LOL... must be great to live in a place where gas is cheap.

It ain't over here (about $1 per litre) and on top of that, road tax and
insurance premiums are calculated almost solely on displacement, so a 427
hemi is really out of the question.

Ergo, I drive one of these shitboxes. It's cheap, reliable and economical
transport and I respect it for that, but it's pathetic in terms of "a car".
To "visually" tune it (as is done over here too), would be a fallacy.

that output at any revs (all cars are tuned for economy, not performance
here). I went and drove the Nurburgring with it last year and had to throw
shifts to get up some of the inclines. Simply laughable.

And don't get me started 'bout the ridiculously long throw of the gearbox
lever, the clutch which fails to engage in sync with the pedal if any
lateral G is present, the iffy throttle response and the mushy brake pedal
either. It sticks to the road like no tomorrow, but handles like s**t.

Anyhow, enough of me lamenting about the sort of compromise one has to make
when the running cost of a vehicle becomes a major factor, enjoy yours while
you can.

Yeah, the poor man's Audi TT...

And "again" Nissan are not planning to make left hand driver versions for
the European market... they left us out on the Skyline, which, when properly
"stroked" can outdrive just about any streetgoing Ferrari and now this....

And how was that line at the end: "I owe you a 10 sec car anyway" when
he disappears with the Supra. I cracked up! What a plot and script :P

Jan, it must really suck if they base taxes and insurance based on
displacement. Any WRX owner will be getting away with blue ***!
Turbos would be all the race I'm sure :)

Petrol is about $1 a litre here too, but that's Aussie dollars, so
only $0.50 US, so not too bad. Makes the V8 still a reasonable option,
which is a beautiful thing.

Hey, at least you have the opportunity to drive the 'Ring, yeah? Not
too shabby!
