Thanks, but I'm retired.  Besides, I'd rather have lunch w. Yates than work
with him.  Right now, he's half a mile down the road from me in (FREEZING)
upstate New York.  If I moved to NoCal, I'd prolly get to see him once a
year.

Alison Hine said exactly the same thing after Gran Turismo 2 came out (that
is, it's almost worth buying a PlayStation to play it).  I finally have to
agree.

Hi Jason,

Sega GT 2002 (clueless title for a game that came out at the *end* of 2002 -
doh!) arrived just after I'd buttoned up the copy for the Motor Trend story.
I agree it's quite nice.  Digital Sportspage's Randy Magruder *loved*
it...and I gotta respect his opinion.  (In *my* opinion, he's writing the
best reviews of racing sims of *anybody* on the Net.)

I was set to import a copy of WRC II (Randy was also over the moon abt. the
first WRC, as am I) until I realized the CD is prolly either PAL only or has
some frickin' localized (for Yrrp) copy protection.  Anybody know?

Lemme know whatcha think of my selection after the MT piece comes out, ok?

I'm an Xbox and Dreamcast owner and I can't stand Sega GT 2002.  The career
mode has possibly the worst structure I've ever seen in a racing game and
the car upgrades are very lame.  It also contains one of the most poorly
implemented graphical effects I've seen (the heat haze)  And what's with the
game being in black & white when racing 80's cars??  The cars aren't any fun
to drive whatsoever.  The only fun I had was when I burst out laughing at
the ludicrous physics after turning traction control off.

Gran Turismo 3 is slightly better but again, the cars simply aren't
challenging or fun to drive.  This is where F355 Challenge scores some
points, although it's a bit dated (except the graphics which are very nice)
Apart from the lack of bumps the physics aren't bad in F355.

I find games where the cars are fun/challenging to drive to be much more to
my liking.  Vanishing Point on the Dreamcast is a classic and still looks
superb (the PS1 version is pretty dodgy though.)  Project Gotham is
excellent fun and the graphics are mostly better than GT3, but it's more
focused on the driving than the cars themselves - a good thing in my book,
but most console racers these days just want to look at lots of pretty cars
and do a few donuts....
