GPL Multiplayer Problem Please Help

by Bob Jiantoni » Mon, 30 Nov 1998 04:00:00

Greetings!

I use a cable modem to connect to the internet (TCP/IP) and GPL doesn't seem
to recognize this and wants to use a COM port to connect. This doesn't work
for the obvious reason that I do not have a modem on a com port...... I have
a NIC Card through a router (AKA Cable modem)

I have made a core.ini file:
[Communications]
alternate_ip_addr_lookup = 1

since Roadrunner uses DHCP to assign me an address.

When I go to pick a game it fails to connect as the only choices I have for
connection are COM ports. Shouldn't TCP/IP be listed also?

I have checked the online FAQ and either missed the answer or am looking in
the wrong place for the solution.

Help anyone?

Bob

(Just a suggestion, I'm no expert)

Have you made sure that in Control panel/Network/Configuration tab TCP/IP is
listed?

Well, uh, yeah....I mean he cable modem wouldn't work if TCP/IP wasn't
listed, you know?

TCP/IP is te  main protocol used to accessthe internet  no? Why won'tGPL see
it?

This might be just as daft as the last guy's tip, but hey...noone else has
responded :)

I think it's just listed as your ip address (eg 123.123.123.123) with no
mention of TCP/IP.

Sorry if this is useless!

Ben
