N2003 - Changing an Ongoing Season?

by Rudebo » Sat, 27 Mar 2004 07:05:00

I'm trying to run a 2004 NCS contemporaneous with RealLife. I started off in
February and the AI  I selected is now embarrassingly low.  Also, am I stuck
with all the Daytona Field Fillers and Paintjobs for the next nine months?

I take it the info is locked in the *.sea file but I can't get it open to
edit. Is that a possibility?

TIA

In previous versions of Papyrus Nascars you can change cars in the carset
you are using through the opponent manager and save it using the same name
as the carset in your championship season BUT it will alter the season
standing which you have accumulated thus far. In other words the point
standing will shuffle. I believe (though by no means positve) that it has to
do with the order of the cars in the carset at the outset of the season. I
ran into this in N 2 or N3 and I don't believe I've tried it since.
One thing I have seen N 2003 do is if you save a race after qualifying and
then make changes to the carset, N 2003 goes back to the cars that were
saved after qualifying- if doesn't use the cahnges you made outside the
race.
Someone may know how to change setting within the file but that is over my
head- I stay away from things like that.
I would like to know the answer to your question because I run into this
same situation every year myself. I usually end up starting over when a
better carset comes out.

Unfortunately, the only season editor out there is for pre-patch versions.
You could probably use a hex editor and a couple dummy seasons to figure
things out.  Keep in mind though that the readme for the aforementioned
editor mentions an integrity check in the sea file, so you'd have to figure
that out as well.

I am pretty sure you can just add or delete cars in the roster without MAJOR
effect.  But the rest is locked in....

It's possible to edit a season's settings (weather, AI strength, etc), but
the only dedicated tool out there works pre-patch only.  As I'd said, I'm
sure it can be figured out after some time with a hex editor.  If anyone
does get it sussed out, it'd be great if you could e-mail the findings to
the dude that made the NR2003 Season Tool
(http://www.theuspits.com/sims/nascar_racing/files/SeasonEdit.zip).  He
might be willing to release a new version if half the work's done for him.
