Getting the Nuernberg track to work

by Alan Pengell » Wed, 17 Dec 2003 17:20:29

Hi All

The Norisring (Nuernberg GP) sounds like an interesting track, but I
can't get it to load. The trackinstall creates an empty directory which
GPL couldn't 'see', so I did it manually. GPL can 'see' the track via
the manual install, but when I try to load it, it fails. I've never had
any other problems so I'm assuming there is something peculiar with this
particular track. Has anyone actually managed to use this track?

Cheers

Yep, works fine and is a great track. There's now even a version of it
for N2003.

Where did you download it from? Maybe the zip was damaged?

What Achim said.  Lou Magyar's Norisring (laid out around the great stadium
featured in Leni Riefenstahl's infamous "Triumph of the Will"; spooky!) is
much nicer in N2003 than it ever was in GPL, where it felt way Mikki Maus.

Hi Joachim

I got it from Magnus' track database, though it had a link to the author's
website. The zip file unzipped okay, but I suppose something might have
got corrupted. I've just downloaded it again and will try again tonight.

Maybe try again with the zip directly from the author. I downloaded it
from there again a while ago to see if anything had changed, and it
worked fine.

I have found when adding tracks that often the installing will create a sub
directory of the track with the same name and all files will be in that.
Just transfer the contents to the first track folder and delete the
subdirectory created by installing. That also happens with N2003 sometimes.

What kind of video card do you have?  Some tracks won't load if you don't have

  Mikki Maus...that's classic!

The tptcc mod or PWF T/A mod work great with the nr2k3 version.  Norisring should
be run by cars with fenders so that they can bang and bump.  That would be a scary
track with exposed wheels.

Full disclosure: I used "Dr. hcF. Ing. Mikki Maus" is a story about Porsche
in a 1963 issue of Car and Driver (blush!).

"IN a story" not "IS a story" - doh!

Hi Eldred

I have a Geforce 4. I tried to install it again, but still no luck. Very strange,
and it must be something to do with the files as every other track I've loaded has
been fine. Oh well, I'll have to let this one go!

Many thanks

Alan

Ok - I downloaded the track, and tried the install.  Same thing as you -
created the directory, but didn't copy any files.  I tried copying the files
manually and editing the 67season file.  I didn't realize it had already done
that, but it still didn't work.  When I looked at the files in the directory,
it was obvious.
in the norisrng track directory, rename the file called dat to norisrng.dat.
Then try it...  Worked for me.

Well spotted Eldred - I must be blind not to have seen it! I'll try it tonight,
but it sounds like things should work out fine.

Many thanks for your help!

Sorry - didn't mean to imply that you were blind for missing it.  Since I've
been running servers for the past several years, I have a LOT of experience
getting track installs to work right...even when the install programs DON'T.<g>
