Check out F1 racing online, www.f1gamers.com it gives a date for the release
of this game. Says PC next to it. I looked at the PS2 screenshots, it`s
listed further down the page, they look pretty damn good.  Have they got it
wrong or is Ubi releasing for PC.
If so will it be arcadey ? or is this the follow up to MGPRS2 ?
Please somone enlighten me.

There is very little info on this game. Ubisoft's first two F1 projects (F1
Race Sim and Monaco F1 RS2) were both PC titles, the later being ported just
recently to the dreamcast with rave reviews.

The new title is expected for the PC and the PS2 - however the team working
on the game engine says that the PS2 version will probably be toned down for
the consol.

The first two titles released by Ubisoft where all very promising and got
great reviews. F1RS was dubbed the champ of F1 by many reviewers knocking
GP2 out of the top spot. The previous versions offered great graphics,
dynamic weather, full seasons and even careers, extensive car setups, very
good ai (not the most aggressive but far better at reacting than any other
F1 title to date.), a good damage model and decent physics (although the GPL
fans will argue) and all the little extras.

It looks very promising and I read an article on it someplace but could not
find the link. sorry.

Well L,       (mind if I call you "L"? ;-))

There was a time when I would have argued your statement on the physics.
Prior to the firt F1 GP this year, however, I was talked into doing an
off-line season in MGPRS2 (http://topgear.dhs.org) and I must say I'm
appreciating this sim more and more. I have to admit I underestimated what
was there. It has even managed to highlight a flaw in my "driving", so I
have gained in all sims by enjoying this one.

It's true that MGPRS2 doesn't handle being on the limit as well as GPL, but
at the moment, when upgraded with a "real" season patch, I have no problem
saying it's still the overall best modern F1 sim. It does take a lot of
effort though. Both in setting up your controller right and getting the most
out of the detailed setup options. Also I have the feeling the idea of the
traction circle is very central to this sim and to get anywhere near the AI,
on anything but the rookie level, requires you make the most of your tyre's
tractive capacities.

I'm very keen to find out more about the next installment. Be sure to post
when you find that article.

Jan.
=---
PS.: I have now tried the "undocumented" control options in F1 2k and that
helps a lot, but the speed/eye candy trade-off remain, giving MGPRS2 the
edge.

I enjoyed MGPRS2 very much too, except for the AI when they got a blue flag.
They were impossible to predict and the AI would even crash into the
backmarkers some times. Hope they fix that.

Check here for screenshots and preview, it`s of the PS2 version but I think
it will give us some idea of what to expect, graphics looks nice.

BRH

F1 racing Champioship Ubisoft

by BRH » Sun, 30 Jul 2000 04:00:00

After reading your post, I decided to shake off the cobwebs and re-install
MGPRS2.  I recall having problems in getting it to run right on my system, but
couldn't recall the specifics.

Well, after re-installing, I was reminded of the problems.  Maybe you can help
me out?

Whether I run it in 640x480 or 800x600, the frame rate is abyssmal - especially
with FF turned on.  Turning FF off helps a bit, but it's still unplayable even
when running alone in training mode.

My system is Celeron 300A oc'ed to 450, 2-12 Meg SLI-ed Voodoo2's, with 256M
RAM.  Wheel is LWFF on ID 1 with TSW pedals on ID 2 (Windows 95).

The exact same set-up runs GP3 with no problems (except in the rain, where it
slows to a bit of a slideshow).  Yes, I guess I'm one of the few Voodoo2 owner's
who has had success in running GP3.  (Don't really know why...)

Are there patches available to get better performance, or a secret setting
somewhere?

Any help would be appreciated.

<scratches head>

That sounds a lot like my system... PIII 450MHz/128Mb RAM/2x 12Mb V2
SLI/Win98se, LWFF (USB) on ID 1 and TM Nascar Pro pedals through L4 digital
gameport on ID 2, so I'm more than a bit surprised to hear of your framerate
problems. I'm in 800x600 and it flies like the proverbial excrement off the
garden implement. No slowdown whatsoever.

I am assuming you're using the "3Dfx installation"... there is a patch
(v1.06) available from the official site for the game www.monacoracing.com,
make sure you get the one for the 3Dfx .exe (ignore the bit about the "GS
Client", it's for racing online and you don't really need to download and
install it before applying the patch). Otherwise I wouldn't know. I'm using
a 2000 season patch from "The Greek Site"
(http://members.xoom.com/hkar/rs2en.htm), but I'm sure that is of no
influence. Don't think there's any special tweak to get it working right,
like I said, I just installed it again in March and everything went fine
first time.

Eh.... I really don't see why the game should give you grief on your setup,
I'm sorry.
