Muli Player N2 BAD after both Patches

by Lannie Schafro » Fri, 23 May 1997 04:00:00

All,

I have been using N2 and a Cardinal Voice/Speakerphone modem with
my friend for quite some time.  This setup works great.  We can talk
to each other while we drive.  No headphones or headsets needed, just
speak into the mic attached to the modem and walla.

We have always connected with a Latency for .10.  We race Charlette
and Tally with 35 cars.  We have NEVER received any lag or glitches
while racing.

We applied the new patches from Papyrus.  Now when we connect, we get
the same latency.  When we race it goes fine for about 5 laps.  Then
The CALLER's AI cars disappear for a few seconds, then come back.
The AI starts jumping all over the track.  They appear in the pits, on
the grass, on the track.  Now imagine 34 cars appearing wheverever
they want!  Car parts and smoke are all over the place and the spotter
is constantly yelling about the reck, which you can't see of course.

The info screen (F2) would scroll and jump about like crazy!  The car
positions would change ever second.

The scenereo for Tally was much less dramatic, but the same results.

Does anyone have any IDEA on what causes this?  It worked great before
the patch and lousy after.  Can this be fixed or do I have to go back to
the original version of NAscar2?

I don't know if this is still true after the patches, but if the
mult.lst is changed on one of the systems, it causes exactly
the kind of behaviour you're describing.  By changed, I mean
cars deleted from the list, and new ones introduced that have
different #'s and such.  A local racing buddy and I had this
same problem after he did some modification of the multi.lst
He had completely deleted most of these cars from the sim,
and added custom cars he had created.  He had to delete
and re-install N2 to correct the problem.  (it was much easier
for him to take this route)

Hope this helps,

thanks for the reply Shawn.  This doesn't appear to be our problem.
We both have the default N2 installation WITH the patches.  We haven't
modified anything but our Modem init string.
