Should I get a T2?

by William Dahm » Mon, 18 Nov 1996 04:00:00

Please E-MAIL me with an answer to my question.  Or post, I will
probably read all posts, but E-MAIL is prefered.
I had a chance to "hold" a T2 and turn it back and forth some but it
wasn't hooked up to a comp so I didn't actually feel how it was with a
game.  I really liked the stiff feel, it felt just like stearing a real
wheel.  Does the lack of force-feedback ruin the driving feeling?
What about the shifting.  Is it possible to play tight courses like
Long Beach (ICR2) with the shifting stick?  I kind of got the idea at
the store that the best way to use it would be to drive with left hand
only but put my right palm face down on the top right of the "dash" and
hit the the a/b buttons with my thumb right thumb.  The wheel felt just
stiff enough for two hands but I don't know If I would be strong enought
to stear it with one hand only.
I am not a tecs wizz, so I would be weary about opening the thing up
and moving the buttons to the realistic racing positions like I have
heard about doing.  If this is very easy I suppose I could do it.
Please throw in any other comments you have.
        P.S.  I would get ICR2, F1GP2, and Screamer 2 if I got a T2 so please
tell me how well it works with each of these games specificly.
P.P.S. I have heard about a "GP" wheel and also a "T3" wheel but these
are just rumors as far as I can tell.  If a new wheel is comming out
that might be better than the T2 then I suppose I could wait a coupple
of months.

I have been using a T2 for several weeks and really like it.  It feels
great with NASCAR and Indycar2.  I really don't think you will miss
force feedback.  These games provide a real enough experience for your
brain to fill in the gaps.  I would stop playing the games before going
back to a joystick.  I hope you have a good stereo sound card and
speakers or headphones.  These are required for realism.

Should I get a T2?

I currently use a T2 for driving GP2, and it is quite good, it feels ok.
Apparently the springs in the accelerator pedal are prone to breaking,
but Thrustmaster are quite good at sending out replacements.
The build quality is quite good, but the "best" steering wheel and pedal
set-up is called a GP500 and is available in the UK from Interactive
Racing, info is available from....

It costs around 200 - 250.00, but is deemed to be the best around.
