MSFF wheel wearing out?

I have noticed that my MSFF wheel has developed some play in the steering. I
use it quite a lot but not as much as I suspect many members of this ng use
theirs. It's much less than a year old but it now has this 1/8" "knock" that
is very noticeable in GPL. Anyone else seen the same thing?

Mine is fine after the same amount of time in use Tony.

I have to stress that I use it a fair bit without the FF enabled so this
might have a bearing on wear rate.

I used to use the MSFF and had the same problem that you describe.  If you
disassemble the wheel you will find that there is a white plastic bushing
that acts as a bearing between the steering shaft and the wheel housing
where the shaft emerges.  This bushing simply slips off the shaft.  I got
rid of the play you mentioned by removing the bushing and placing a thin
plastic shim behind it to take up the slack.  It took a little
experimentation to get the right thickness but when I did, it solved the
problem completely.

I'd just like to add, beware taking it apart, there are loads of screws
holding the underside on. Three of them are located underneath the anti-slip
pads at the back (near the part where the pedals and power adapter plug in)
Without taking these out, the back won't come off!

Thanks a million for the advice. I did take it apart (with a bit of a
struggle) when the problem first showed and couldn't see the cause. I'll try
again.
