I recall an issue with the demo and AV software. Also some people had
trouble with the auto setting for shader level in the configuration
program, setting it to DX7, 8 or 9 would solve that. Also check it holds
your resolution in the configuration program. Changes to drivers can
sometimes fox it and it doesn't run the config program automatically.
Manually running it and selecting a resolution may fix it.

Of course you may have tried all of these.

Cheers

Ok, so now we have to disable Virus Scanners to run a game that has
StarForce?

How much wackier can this get?

Oh, wait.  I understand.  Their afraid the Virus Scanner might remove it :)

Larry,

Really step off for a second, disableing the AV, is NOT uncommon.  this is
to "test" that it could be a problem, it was for me, and it was for rFactor
too, not absolutely positive that it was GTlegengs on my machine as of
now...  But it could have been.  I do recall having to update the starforce
drivers, I guess because I also had Richard Burns rally game.  you get that
info just going to the gtlegends website.

later.

| Hey Plow I would suggest removing that ***from your PC.  It really is
the
| worst AV code Ive ever used.  Try Grisoft AVGFree.

I don't know, unless you have some really sensitive, important stuff on your
rig, using an AV program does more harm than good.  Same goes with software
firewall programs.

I mean, the first thing to do if you're running an AV program in the
background and you have problems with some software (a game or otherwise),
the first thing to do is turn off the AV program and see if the problem
persists.  More often than not the problem will cease to exist, because you
got rid of the problem when you disabled the AV program.

Simply practicing smart (almost common-sense) email and internet usage will
keep you out of danger.

I think that in all my times of computing-- since 1986-- I had to call
technical support once, dealing with my router (and not counting cable
internet stuff).  And during that time also I've had one virus.  I'll take
my chances, save some money, and rid myself of the headache and stay away
from AV programs and firewalls (software).

Summise?  Er, do you mean, possibly, "surmise"?  :)

| Bought GTL, installed it, Starforce and all, and tried to run it. When I
| clicked the drive button, the game just dropped to desktop. Every track,
| every time I tried. Since all my drivers were up-to-date, and every other
| game I own doesn't have a problem, I went to the website for the game and
| looked for "technical support". It said, send an email to Viva. I did
.....
| no reply. I sent another ..... no reply. It's now two weeks, and I've sent
| yet another, but no reply.
|
|
| Some people have no problem with the game, a lot of others do. Good luck
| getting any after-sale support if you're one of the unlucky ones.
|
|

If you haven't fixed the problem yet, fiddle with your desktop, like set a
different resolution or color depth.  Also, check if you have antialiasing
or any of that stuff enabled.  Do one thing at a time; and if the problem
continues, return that one thing you changed back to the way it was before
moving on to the next thing.  Eventually-- and with asking on boards and
stuff-- you'll find the problem.

Also check to see if direct X has any errors (run:dxdiag).  Disable your
sound card.  Use different videocard drivers; swap videocards, even.  Check
what's running in the background.  TURN OFF ALL AV SOFTWARE.

There's plenty of stuff to try.

I have not had to disable my antivirus program in the last two years. A
piece of software that requires you to disable antivirus is absolutely
absurd and unacceptable in 2006.

Indeed, I think GTL may be a witch. We should burn it.

I may be lucky, but never in my life have I had my AV program interfere with
my Games.
