Key threads

  • Anger over reports of no Grand Prix 2 update 1996-10-20 · 136 posts
After a poster relayed MicroProse tech support saying there were no plans for a GP2 update with wet weather, a 1996 season or network play, a long and abusive argument followed. Critics said MicroProse had advertised features it did not deliver and gave poor support. Defenders, including John Wallace, said the box made no such promises and called GP2 an excellent sim, and conflicting reports of a planned IPX patch kept the dispute going.
  • Debate over a NASCAR-only newsgroup 1996-07-20 · 59 posts
Kyle Langston polled interest in a NASCAR-specific newsgroup ahead of NASCAR 2 and the NRL. Michael Carver and others objected that most readers enjoyed all sims and that splitting would cause cross-posting, and criticised Langston for invoking Ed Martin's support. Tony Johns said his RFD proposed separate f1, indy and nascar groups; the argument grew personal.
  • Proposal to create rec.autos.simulators.nascar 1996-07-19 · 62 posts
Amid the flood of GP2 posts, a user proposed a NASCAR-specific newsgroup. Opponents including John Wallace said a single group served fans of all sims and splits would bring cross-posting, while supporters cited the coming NASCAR Racing League. Tony Johns noted a formal RFD process was needed and argued with the proposer over who started it; Ed Martin joked he was glad GP2 meant fewer questions for him.
