couple messages which mentioned this date. Or does it still look like
the end of Feb. is still the release date?

NOBODY KNOWS!
Can't we all just wait and see? Anybody you can possibly ask will give
you a different date, including Microprose at the moment it seems.
Still, at least it's PROBABLY February or March...
Stuart.

Somewhere in Epsom, England, UK.
*** Megastore, London, currently have the 15th of March as the release
date. It used to be mid-Feb, then before that the 2nd of Feb...
It's anyone's guess really.. My guess is, though, that the magazine reviews
means it's out by the end of March...
Alan.

PC GAMER magazine (UK) lists "End February" as the release date.
We can only hope.
I played the demo at the COMPUTER SHOPPER show in London a couple of months
ago - and the game really kicks ass! It feels very much like F1GP1, but
is more sophisitciated in most areas (esp graphics and AI). Personally,
I'm not too worried about the SVGA mode - VGA will do me fine. It looks
much better in VGA than ICR2 does. I've also convinced myself that VGA
will be a more realistic simulation of what a driver REALLY sees
at 190mph though a oil soaked visor!

BULLSHIT!!!!!
Look outside your window. That is what a driver would see. Do you
think VGA can represent that better than SVGA??

Craig

Well, how can anyone refute an argument like that. Your English teacher
must be so proud...
If you READ the post SLIGHTLY less literally, you may see a suspicion of
a JOKE in there. Maybe?
Cheers!

: Andrew,
: BULLSHIT!!!!!
Well, although my suggestion was initially designed to console myself that
my PC couldn't handle the SVGA mode - I think it does actually make sense.
My understanding is that F1 Drivers actually get pretty poor visibility,
for a number of reasons:
1) Vibration. The car is doing up to 180mph, over often bumpy tracks,
with VERY firm suspension.
2) Dirt on visor. Visors get VERY dirty, from oil, *** etc. Hence the
need for tear-off strips. But drivers cannot have enough tear-off strips
to ensure 100 percent clear vision all the time.
I'd be willing to bet that Messrs Schumacher and Hill do not have SVGA
equivalent vision after the first 10 laps. You just have to look at the
in-car footage to get a very rough idea. And even this probably eliminates
some of the vibration, and has a more effective cleaning system.
VGA will be fine for me - especially since it looks a damn sight better
than ICR2's VGA mode. Sure, I'll probably use SVGA if my PC will cope,
but I just think that we shouldn't get hung up on having PERFECT graphics,
when it probably not actually THAT realistic. I'd MUCH rather have VGA
graphics and a good, playable game, than wasting loads of CPU effort on
showing me advertising hoardings.

I agree totally. Anyone that thinks that VGA is a viable option on ICR2 then try playing it on a 17" monitor. And you can't blame the monitor. I have a Sony 17"SF and it kicks. On these monitors, and they will become more standard as the price goes down, you really need SVGA, or reduce screen size in the game like doom does.

Will, monitor prices have not dropped much at all over
the last three years - they have been the most expensive
part of a new system (excluding ***y RAM) for some time.
HDD and CPU's have crashed in price by comparison.
I will agree that ICR2 is unplayable in VGA mode - but that
says more about the poor translation from 640x480 to 320x200
than the fact that I have a large monitor - I don't. The
VGA graphics in ICR2 are so totally `out of focus'
that on a track lined with walls it is impossible to see where
the corners are until you are past the turn in point.
The VGA graphics in F1GP may be simpler, but they are much
`better' because you can use them to drive with. I run
ICR2 in SVGA on a AMD486DX2/100 with most texturing off just
so I can see the track ahead!!! (I still get about 24fps)
Besides, I prefer the surreal look to the fake texturing :)
I would not recommend ICR2 to anyone with a machine
incapable of running in SVGA mode - and that means a DX/100
minimum.

Yuck!! DOS one day, Linux the next. And the day after, and the
one after that.....

I agree too! But I've test-driven F1GP2 in VGA mode - and it is *ALOT*
better than ICR in VGA mode. Sure, SVGA will be even better - but don't
dispare if your system won't be able to run F1GP2 in SVGA.
I mean, F1GP(1) still looks OK in VGA mode - it just lacks texture.
F1GP2 is *VERY* similar, but *HAS* texture (presumably switchable?)
Oohh - I can't wait till they releases it!
