GP2 Release date 29th March 96 ???

by Greg Book » Sat, 17 Feb 1996 04:00:00

I walked into my local Game today to see if anything interesting had been
released - no, unless you count the new film from Origin - Wing Commander IV.
But then I checked out their release list - Grand Prix 2 - 29th March 1996.

Can anyone confirm/deny this or say how solid it is (Microprose?)

I guess they can be believed, when I was waiting for Grand Prix Manager (whoops)
, it came out the day they had on their release list.

Also Special Reserve, a UK mail order company, also have the 29th down as the
release date on their web page, so I guess it comes from at least the
distributors if not Microprose.

Cheers,

Ant.

When is the start of the 1996 F1 season? Something timed for that
perhaps?

That IS a question rather than an answer by the way!

Well, the start of the season is March 10th, so it can't be that!

 And thats an answer! ;-)

The season starts in Melbourne on March 10th.  Neither Spectrum Holobyte
in the US nor Microprose in the UK will disclose a precise release date
to mere mortals at this time (although Microprose UK at least say "March"
instead of "Spring"), and Microprose UK are not yet taking pre-orders.
I was asked to call back at the beginning of March for further info.

HMV also have the release date at 29th March, so I guess someone has told the
stores/mail order companies a date.

Interesting. I went to "Electronic Boutique" (sp?), Indianapolis, this weekend,
and the first thing I saw there (is my eyesight too biased?) was the GP-II box.
Of course no software inside. When I asked "when", the answer was
"March 11".

Of course I didn't believe it ...

I think (well, hope!) that GP2 will come out at some point in March. Ideally for
Microprose the best time would be just before the first race on March 10th as
the game could then ride on the hype of the start of the F1 season.

Electronics Boutique have a release date of 15th March, so I guess March
sometime might be possible.

If this is true then Microprose are cutting it *very* fine indeed. I
know everyone slags Microprose off in this group (me included),
particularly after the GPM fiasco, but it would take a particularly
staggering lack of foresight for them not to have made absolutely sure
that it would be out by the 10th. Maybe they only have to officially
announce the software by this date ?

Then again, this is Microprose were talking about !!!
