Kind of cool except I'm pretty sure those carbon fiber side pods would break
rather than bend.  Carbon fiber doesn't dent very well.

Ouch!  Anybody want to buy a slightly used Minardi, cheap? :-)

That's not my point..
I think it's cool that it CAN do dents, not because its' realistic in F1 or
anything.. but because it means that MODDERS will have damageable cars.. as
apposed to, just rear wings popping off.

Good point.  We will now be able to put nice big dents in our favorite
sports cars.  ;o)

I believe someone on the simbin.co.uk forum is editing the default
models so that the cars split apart more realistically (a'la GP4).
This feature exists in F1C but ISI apparently didn't have time to
fully implement it in the default cars.

Not sure - but some slightly used Arrows just got bought by the slightly
used Minardi team. Does that count?

While it's certainly nice to have such detailed damage, it's
overkill for an F1 sim (remember, you clip the guardrails in an
F1 and your race is basically over ;-) The damage depicted in
the screenshot certainly is well beyond pit repair ;-)

I cannot wait to see this damage model applied in GTR Challenge
or whatever the name maybe. Now that would be really
interesting!

cheers,

uwe

For some reason, I don't think I can dent my sidepods. Is this a config file
thing? A Minardi thing? Or am I just not trying hard enough <g>

Go to the damage.ini file in the Vehicles folder and adjust a few values:  (my
values are here, not the defaults!)

VertMult=2.0               // Multiplied by aero damage to get vert damage

[VERTEX]
DefaultLimit=0.65                           // Only 15 cm of deformation -
carbon-fibre actually shatters

To make the suspenion bend easier and the wheels fall off more often, adjust
this:

WheelBend=800.0           // Impulse to bend wheel
WheelDetach=3000.0         // Threshold to detach wheel

Now, if you really wallop something good, you'll absolutely destroy your car
(not 100% realistic to carbon fibre destruction, but still your car gets
royally f'ed), and in minor to medium accidents you'll do a more reasonable
level of damage to your car.  I've crashed so badly before at Spa (I got
t-boned hard in the side) that my left arm was*** out of the***pit!

I should have added that this was done with a tweaked config file - purely
as a demonstration of what the game engine is capable of.  I really wish it
were possible for the wheels to stay attached and flop around as per the new
safety regulations.
