A friend of mine is gathering information about Mosport to go into a book
that he'll be producing next year.
I'm a track marshal at Mosport, and fell in love with the track the first
time I went (that was only 8 years ago!). Since then, I've gathered a few
books, pictures, contacts (people who worked/raced at the track back in
the early years) which I'll be sharing with him. I was wondering if anyone
else here might have anything they can share - slides, photos, race
programs, possibly even a few personal stories about times at the track!

I'm not sure exactly how much 'stuff' my friend needs to fill the pages,
but obviously the more he has to work from, the better.
If you have anything that could be of use, please email me so that I can
forward your email address to him.
Thanks,

Did you get the Mosport 40th Anniversary book that was released during this
years ALMS race? It has lots of good info and photos in it. You can still
buy it at Mosport.com if you haven't got it yet.

Another good place for you to find info is at the sccapro.com
forums(Trans-Am & World Challenge) as many of the drivers are on it talking
to their fans and sharing their stories.

Hope that helps

BTW, Mosport is the best track in the world. :)

Very underrated circuit.  Lots of challenging curves and gradient.Would be
tremendous to see it brought up to current F1 standards without altering the
layout (though it's not going to happen) so we didn't have to go back to
freakin' Montreal again..

They upgraded it to FIA standards last year. The FIA would allow F1 to run
there.
It would never happen though, Shumey would ***himself approaching turn 2
at 170+ mph. :)

Somewhere I saw a quote from a former F1 racer (Jackie Stewart?), who
said that Turn 2 at Mosport was the scariest turn in all of motor
racing, or something to that effect.  Anyone know where that quote came
from?

CART should have a chat with Don Panoz as he now owns 3 fantastic road
courses in North America (Road Atlanta, Sebring, Mosport).

I'd love to see the season start with a CART race in Sebring that would
bookend the 12 Hours race.  A stop at Atlanta 2 weeks later and then
Monterrey a week later to open the season.

Booyah.

Mosport is an excellent place to spend a day...or a weekend...
1993 my buddy was interviewing Jacques  Villeneuve for a Canadian car
magazine after his Formula Atlantic race, JV was just walking along
after the podium presentations, no one with him; he talked to my buddy
for about 10 minutes, looked at us as if to say "anyone else want to
talk" said thanks and walked away, alone, as if we were ignoring him!
How his life has changed!! A year later he was rookie of the year and
runner up in the Indy 500...

The turn 2 quote that I read about being scary was from Niki
Lauda...

Cheers...see ya...
BTW, if anyone gets the chance, go to the USGP in Indy...it's
great!!!Lot's of good food, great selection of souvenirs and the
hospitality is fabulous. Park in someones yard and walk to the
track...the whole street leading up to it opens up their yards...for
$10.!!  Great time...scalped tickets everywhere...plenty to choose
from...

John -

1:09.xxx about 6 years ago - now that car and engine combo by todays
standards(ALMS) is a little long on the tooth.

config. after they purchased it) and say get a pile of shit F1 BAR or Jaguar
platform there - I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up getting 0:58.xxx
in qualifying trim.

Mosport have gotten 1:36.xxx with a barely road legal 5 speed 2150lb car
with 500hp courtesy of as some people here just love to point out - a
replica AC Cobra despite putting a smiley and an intentionally incorrect
registration date.

I think the current ALMS ( maybe overall?) record is 1:08 something -- set
in 2001.

Pretty big jump - the ALMS cars are pretty fast. You think this even
possible?

I remember seeing George Eaton ( I think) at Mosport ( in the late 60's?)
racing a 427 Cobra at Mosport in an endurance race -- my recollection is
vague but I think it was called "The Sundown Grand Prix".  I wonder what the
times were like back then.

There were also a number of Honda S600's in the same race. The imagery that
came to mind at the time ( and still) was of this dinosaur terydactyl
surrounded by gnats.

having my friends 911 AWD (99)Turbo inches away from my left shoulder as Im
blasting down Andretti straight at about 130MPH and gaining  -My shifter
caught the gate as I went to 4th gear up the hill and that caught him off
guard as he was getting out of my draft.

Extreme flushing of the toilet afterwards due to brown stains.

Yeah, but I can't see CART at Mosport, laptimes would be way too short.  I
also personally think the run off down the Moss-corner would be too small
for the momentum those CART cars would bring down the hill.  That would be
crazy!   ;-)

True, I'm sure the drivers would love those high-frequency bumps down the
airport stretches ;-)   It would be an amazing sight, especially the last
and first corners (I love them both).

It was definitely about Mosport, what I meant to say was, does anybody
know who said that?  Somewhere else in this thread it was said to be
Niki Lauda.  Anyway it's a good quote, no matter who said it.  After
trying Mosport in SCGT and GPL, I can imagine how scary it must be in
real life.

Mosport brings back some nice memories--best one was sitting on the bank
looking up-track at the braking area, before the first part of T5 (Moss
Corner).  Watching Mark Donohue brake the big Can-AM Porsche (917-30??) for
that corner was amazing.  The car was so unstable under braking that it
darted back and forth across nearly the whole width of the track--as he
fought to keep it on the road.

It never had to be a worthy quote,  In the early days, when JYS was with Ken,
it was so, and It wasn't so long ago that I'd see stawk cars fly off the 2.
Last August I saw Herbert in the Champion Audi fly off of the 2.  I've
roller bladed that part, I've seen Scott Goodyear and Ron Fellows race
Camaro's off of 2, and into 3.  I've been to a few, 2 is still what JYS
said, and don't forget, when you head into 4 and up the Eases to 5a and 5b,
it was to be a hairpin, way before MARIO had pubic hairs.
5a, and 5b, into the straight were called Moss, because he designed it, not
to be a hair pin.

It's worthy of a walk, and Jude's story about driving reminds me of me.
What a track.

Go there, and don't forget, most who go there, have been pretty well
everywhere else.

Y'all love that 'nadaian track!
