GPL: screen shots

by Steve Sarll » Sat, 27 May 2000 04:00:00

What key takes screen shots?  I thought it was prnt-scrn but all that
did was exit the screen b4 I could get a shot or even read it.  It was
my first win against slow ai in a GP2 car at Monza and I couldn't even
read the newspaper story about it.  :-)  Can't find my manual or I'd
just rtfm.

Thanks for any help.

Hi!

Look into your GPL-folder. If you're lucky, you'll find a file called "gplss01.pbf". This is the screenshot. Use the program "pbf2tga.exe" which is delivered with GPL (it's also in that folder) to convert the screenshot from pbf- to tga-graphics-format (simply drag the screenshot file over the *.exe-file and let it go). Et voil: There you have you're paper and as much time as you want to read it ;).

Sounds like you HAVE taken a screen shot. Check your GPL directory for a
GPLss00.pbf file. You can convert this to a TGA using pbf2tga.exe also in
your GPL folder...

Good Luck,

Ok.  Just tried pbf2tga & it had a runtime error.  Also tried
ekpbfview and it couldn't convert the screen shots.  Converted the
cover.pbf or whatever it was that's also in there.  Any other proggies
for this???

pbf creation unfortunately doesn't work with the OpenGL patch if your
using it. Print Screen does work for the newspaper or single screen
shots. It captures it to your Clipboard, you then have to exit the
game, and paste it into Wordpad, Paint, etc, and save it.

You could use a third-party utility like hyper-snap DX, which can run in the
background while you play GPL, then use a hotkey to get the screenshots.

from the Readme:

CAPTURING SCREENSHOTS

There are two methods of taking screenshots during the game.  First you can
press ALT-PrintScreen to capture the current screen in the clipboard, allowing
you to exit GPL and paste it into the paint program of your choice.  Secondly,
and useful if you want to take a number of different shots at once, pressing
just the PrintScreen button saves sequentially numbered PBF files (gplss##.pbf)
to your GPL directory.  After exiting GPL you can then use the included
pbf2tga.exe program to convert them to a usable TGA format.

Are you using a TNT Steve ? Then your .pbf files will be blanks, ignore them.
When you hit PrintScreen(or Alt-PrintScreen, not sure, try both) it saves it to
your clipboard, one at a time only. If your not familiar with the functions of
the clipboard, read up on it in Windows help.

As you can see from the posting time, it was me with 21 minutes ahead ;)).
But I saw that our two answers dindn't really help you :(.
I suggest (as some others did) that you use a third party snapshot program. You might get such thing as freeware for download on some freeware-archive like Tucows.
