Adding extra controls to a T2

by kite » Sun, 19 Apr 1998 04:00:00

hi all
Been reading about some of the posts about people converting
there T2 so the throttles are on different axis, and the installation
of extra buttons on the wheel, and have hence have a couple of
questions.

If i add a button onto the wheel does it have to be wired to one of
the original buttons, as I can only get a max of 4button using DirectX
under Win95 (even with my six button joypad).

Will re-wiring the gas and brake onto seprate axis help me in GPL, as
if I dive on the brake, with my Gas foot to the floor I return the
overall pot readout to netural (hence no gas no brake effects).  This
means I can't lift off the gas slowly and apply the brake as quickly
as I think should be possible with a different  Gas and brake axis
set-up.  i.e I'm not getting true left-foot braking.. as the two
controls interact with each other.
Is this correct??

I think you will be limited to 4 buttons.  I would suggest using the
wiring from the buttons on the dash.  I never found them too useful
(except for a reverse button).

Yes, you are correct.  Having the brake and gas on separate axis will
greatly improve you handling in GPL. It helps some in other sims also,
but it is really noticable in GPL.  However, "diving" on the brakes in
GPL is an invitation to disaster.  You need a delicate touch on the
brake pedal.  Once your wheels lock up, you are losing your ability to
brake (and steer).

With both pedals on the same axis, pressing the brakes while depressing
the gas really has no affect on the "balance" of the car.  But, with the
pedals on different axis you can "fine tune" the balance by applying
some gas while braking.

Hope your springs arrive soon!
