I just decided to bring my computer downstairs and hook it up to the Virtual
Racer's Online Connection (bet you've never seen it written in full before,
eh?:) Anyway, I didn't seem to have any problems signing up, downloaded the
core.ini and pressed "Join" on one of the available races in "Room One"

The game started up okay, I slected "Multiplayer" clicked on the Green Flag,
went to the Multiplayer menu, clicked 'join' but there was no available "Via
Connection" option in the drop down menu!? Therefore, the Green Flag didn't
appear, so I couldn't start the practice :o( Any idea's?

I'm connecting with a 56K winmodem. GPL runs without problems offline.

'Fraid I can't actually help but I've heard that the problem is AOL.
You'll need to ditch them first if I remember correctly.

I am using AOL to connect to VROC but my connections aren't all that great and
I get discoed more often than not. I use Allison's core.ini file with the line
from the previous post pasted to the end. I have no idea what it means but I
can connect!

Use notepad to reopen core.ini and make sure there are still carriage
returns at the end of all the lines.  I had the same problem after adding
the above line to my file the first time and when I went back into core.ini,
there was just one big unintelligible line without breaks.  I don't know why
but after inserting line breaks at the appropriate places and resaving,
everything worked fine.

You said GPL works offline, but can you try going into MULTIPLAYER while not
connected to the internet.
Do you see the modem selection now?
