OT: Track converters

I have been hugely mislead by reports of track converters that can convert
tracks from Indycar 1&2, NASCAR 1,2,3,4,Legends etc etc, when they mostly
can't, or show up as completely black circuits so you can't see the barriers
or anything.

Does anybody have a track converter which will convert the original Indycar
tracks to GPL - at least it should be the easiest one to do the conversion.
Also, if converters (which work) are available, why can you not download
tracks which have already been converted, possibly with better AI grooves
and trackside detail. There is a huge market for this kind of thing,
especially for people like me who have bought most Papyrus sims and would
like to swap and change the tracks between them.

I don't know why it says OT: Track Converters. Sorry. I am sure this isn't
OT in rec.autos.simulators!

You are two years late for most of that.  AFAIK there are no straight
convertors for the tracks from ICR1 to any suceeding Papyrus program, except
for a method to take the original Indy 500 track addon for ICR1 and convert
it to N2, then you could convert it to ICR2 and the POSSIBLY convert it for
use with N3.  However, since N3 has a perfectly fine Indy track that seems
pointless.  There is a convertor at theuspits.com that allows you to convert
ICR2 tracks to N99/N3.  The TPTCC league has been using these tracks for
years.
There also is a convertor that will take the N99/n3 tracks and make them
usable in GPL.  There also is a convertor that allows SOME of the GPL tracks
to be driven in N3.
Please note that the original icr2 > n2 convertor used to cost $15.  I
assume it is now free.  The current GPL > N3 convertor also costs money and
is available from Dave Noonan's site...with a link from the uspits.
Several websites, such as Team Friendship have convertor or made tracks
available for both GPL and N3.
good luck
